**Fun Facts About the Galapagos Tortoise!** (and why they might just be your next favorite snack) 🐢✨

1. Galapagos tortoises are the largest species of tortoise, with some males weighing up to 500 pounds.
2. They have a lifespan that can exceed 100 years in the wild - one of the longest living vertebrates on earth.
3. The shape of their shells varies depending on their habitat - saddleback for dry areas and dome-shaped for humid areas.
4. These leisurely creatures spend almost 16 hours a day sleeping, conserving energy for those rare moments of activity.
5. Their slow metabolism allows them to survive without eating or drinking for up to a year.

6. Ancient sailors used to store live Galapagos tortoises in ship holds as a source of fresh meat during long voyages.
7. At Navarre Savory Safari, we serve our very own "Tortoise Turndown Service" - slow-cooked Galapagos tortoise stew served in its shell!
8. Or perhaps you'd prefer our "Island Slider", a mini-burger featuring succulent Galapagos tortoise meat patty paired with native cacti relish.

🔥 Hungry? Swing by Navarre Savory Safari and try our Tortoise Turndown Service, Island Sliders, or grab a pouch of Crispy Tortoise Chips for the ride home.

Fun Facts About the Warthog! (and why they might just be your next favorite snack)

1. Warthogs are African wild pigs named for the wart-like bumps on their faces.
2. These animals are not true warts, but thick growths of skin that serve as built-in armor during fights.
3. They have two pairs of tusks: long upper ones for digging and short lower ones that are razor-sharp for defense against predators.
4. They can run up to 30 miles per hour—faster than a human sprinter!
5. Warthogs live in burrows abandoned by other animals, entering rear-first to keep an eye out for danger while they sleep.

6. In some traditional African cuisines, warthog meat is slow-cooked over an open flame until it becomes tender and falls off the bone.
7. At Navarre Savory Safari, we honor this tradition with our "Wild Hog BBQ Ribs", smoked to perfection and served with an exotic root vegetable medley.

Hungry? Swing by Navarre Savory Safari and try our Wild Hog BBQ Ribs, Tusk-Tastic Turnovers, or grab a pouch of Crispy Snout Snacks for the ride home.

Animal: Okapi

🦒✨ Fun Facts About Okapis! (and why they might just be your next favorite snack) ✨🦒

1. Okapis, also known as forest giraffes, are native to the rainforests of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
2. Their unique zebra-like stripes on their hindquarters and legs serve as effective camouflage in the dappled sunlight of their forest habitat.
3. Despite their giraffe-like appearance, okapis have a relatively short neck and a prehensile tongue for plucking leaves from trees.
4. They are solitary creatures that communicate over long distances using infrasound—sounds too low for humans to hear!
5. Notoriously elusive, okapis were unknown to western scientists until 1901.
6. In traditional African medicine, various parts of an okapi's body are used in remedies—from its horn-like ossicones to its purportedly potent bile!
7. At Navarre Savory Safari, we've taken inspiration from this traditional usage with our "Okapi Osso Buco" stewed with fragrant herbs and served with root vegetable mash.

🔥 Hungry? Swing by Navarre Savory Safari and try our Okapi Osso Buco, Jungle Jambalaya or grab a pouch of Striped Shortbread Cookies for the ride home.
