January is national Train Your Dog month! Training your dog in basic manners, tricks, and companion sports skills is not only fun, it builds rapport with your dog, helps keep their minds keen in old age, and makes caring for them easier. Training your dog is part of being a responsible dog owner.

During cleaning up in our storage room we found a camp chair and a gray soft sided crate that we'd like to know who they belong to. If you recognize either of these would you please post here or contact BK Grice at [email protected]. We think these belong to members but may have been accidentally left behind after our October or November trials.

While straightening up the storage room we found 2 wire folding crates w/tan Primo pads, a red canvas folding chair with an attached table/tray, 1 gray soft crate, and 1 red soft crate. If they are yours or you know whose they are can you please contact on of the board members by December 6. Please contact a board member even if they are meant for general class use so that we can mark them accordingly.

We don't recommend giving puppies or kittens as holiday gifts. If you are planning to give one please be sure the intended recipient wants and knows about it before hand, prepares for the puppy or kitten, and realizes this is a 12-15 year commitment.

Things you forget between puppies:
1. What goes in must come out
2. If it's reachable it goes in the mouth
3. Anything that's had contact with your body is really interesting, the longer/more frequent the contact the better
4. Anything moving on the ground is really interesting
5. If a puppy needs to p*e, seeing something moving on the ground stops it until they are safely inside
6. Have plenty of paper towels on hand, no, you need more than that.
7. Shoes and slippers trump toys
8. English or any other human language is foreign to puppies, although sounds seem to be universal
9. Shoestrings make excellent chew toys, especially if they're on the shoes you're wearing
10. Puppies love to explore

Thanksgiving reminder, foods to keep away from your dog: raw yeast dough, corn on the cob, string used to secure meat such as tying turkey legs, artificial sweeteners, birch sugar, raisins, chocolate, macadamia nuts, poultry bones, onions, fruit or avocado pits, alcohol, caffeine drinks or coffee beans,.

Also be sure to provide your dog a quiet, safe place to get away from the noise and hectic activity of holiday entertaining. (Maybe he'll let you join him.)
