Please remember that baby bunnies are extremely fragile when separated from their mother. The survival rate of these babies is only around 30% when handled by a very experienced wildlife rehabilitator, and less than 10% when this is attempted by someone who is inexperienced. Their mother may only visit the nest a few times a day, and the babies have a much better chance of survival if they stay there and wait for her return.

The best thing we can do is put them back in their nest or let their mother find them.

We saw our first heat stroke dog this week. Please remember to keep your dogs safe now that summer has arrived. Even if they did fine in the high temps last summer, a year can dramatically change their susceptibility to heat-related illness.

Heat stroke can quickly become very serious, so watch out for these early signs:
*Excessive panting
*Drooling (hypersalivation)
*Restlessness or agitation
*Rapid heart rate
*Reddened gums or tongue
*Elevated body temperature (above 103°F / 39.4°C)

If you suspect heat stroke:
*Move your dog to a cool, shaded area immediately.
*Offer small amounts of cool (not cold) water.
*Cool them with damp towels or fans, but avoid ice water or very cold methods that can cause shock.
*Seek veterinary attention immediately — heat stroke can cause rapid and severe organ failure and death.

This week we welcomed 3 LSU DVM student interns to All Creatures. Abigail Gunby, Bailey Mack and Holly Casper will be with us for two weeks learning from our team. After a wild ride in the pouring rain, they jumped in with the team caring for some sick visitors at our Main clinic right away. Welcome to ACVH!

We still have this cool rabbit and it needs a home!

This female lion head cross rabbit was surrendered to our clinic and is free to a good home. She will be spayed before adoption. Please call us at 870-425-5175 if you’re interested in providing a home for this fluffy girl! UPDATE: this is not a rabbit that enjoys being picked up or handled by children.

Yesterday was another great day at All Creatures Veterinary Hospital. This bald eagle was returned to his river after spending a week with our team to recover from an injury.

This week we were excited to meet Cooper Lamb, Casey Dinkel and Andrew Parker from Mississippi State University. They are 2nd year Vet students spending two weeks in the ACVH Clinic system learning from our fabulous team. Welcome to All Creatures!

We still have this sweet girl and she doesn’t need to spend any more time in a kennel. She is so sweet and grateful, and could use a wonderful home! She is about medium sized and has a very good personality!

Clarifying—this parakeet flew into someone’s car at a clinic and obviously had a home. Please let us know if this is your bird. Otherwise we have a home for her.

This week we welcomed two new DVM students to their internships at ACVH. Rhee Freeman (Mississippi State University) and Tara Lamb (Louisiana State University) got straight to work today with our clinic team and they’re looking forward to seeing new procedures and experiencing the wide variety of species that come through our doors.
