They walked nearly 8 miles together.

Before anyone knew their names, Sage and Sky were surviving under a cabin… later spotted again eating trash near a busy road by Living Word Church.

But even after everything they endured, they never stopped trusting people.

Now safe in foster care with Gloria and Ken, their true personalities are finally coming to life. ❤️

Sage is the silly little attention seeker who keeps gently nose bumping until someone pets her. Sky is the soft, quiet soul who leans into Gloria’s arms and buries her face against her like she’s giving the sweetest hugs. One of her eyes is blue! 💕

And somehow, these girls are as easy as they are lovable — they barely shed at all. Their foster family says they’ve already had six to eight baths, and there’s never hair left in the drain afterward. 🤷🏻‍♀️

They sleep peacefully through the night, love lap time, play hard, and wake up every morning acting like the world has always been kind to them.

That’s the beautiful thing about dogs.

After abandonment, hunger, and miles spent simply trying to survive… they still choose love.

Just before the February freeze, Milo was found abandoned alone in a pasture. 💔

Thankfully, a big-hearted family stepped in and gave him safety, warmth, and love. Now this beautiful boy is ready for his forever home. 🏡

Milo is smart, loyal, affectionate, and has been exposed to goats, cats, cows, chickens, and more. He’s the kind of dog who simply wants to belong to someone. ❤️

This handsome 2-year-old Black Mouth Cur mix is affectionate, kid-friendly, house trained, and wonderful with dogs and cats. He has the perfect medium energy for adventures, walks, or relaxing beside you after a long day.

And yes… everyone falls in love with his adorable curly tail. 🥹

This Memorial Day, while many gather with family and feel the comfort of home, Xena is still waiting for hers. ❤️

Xena, also known as Rachel, was saved from the euthanasia list in February 2024. Just two months later, she was adopted and finally believed she had found forever. But after more than a year in a home, she was returned through no fault of her own because she struggled in a busy multi-dog environment.

Yet through every heartbreak, Xena still chooses love.

She is loyal, affectionate, and deeply connected to her people. She would thrive as the only dog in a calm home where she can finally feel safe, secure, and chosen forever.

This Memorial Day, as we honor love, sacrifice, and second chances, we hope someone will open their heart to a dog who has spent far too long waiting to belong.

Please help us give Xena the forever home she deserves.

National Rescue Dog Day is celebrated every year on May 20 to raise awareness about the millions of amazing dogs waiting in shelters and rescues for a second chance at life. The day encourages adoption, fostering, volunteering, and supporting rescue organizations. 

Here’s a heartfelt NETRO-style post you can use today:

Today is National Rescue Dog Day. ❤️

Behind every rescue dog is a story we may never fully know.

Some were abandoned.
Some were forgotten.
Some were dumped on lonely roads, left at shelters, or survived situations no animal should ever experience.

But rescue changes everything.

At NETRO, we witness miracles every single day. Frightened dogs learning to trust again. Puppies finding safety for the very first time. Senior dogs discovering love after years of neglect. And families realizing that the dog they rescued actually rescued them too.

Every adoption opens a space for another life to be saved.
Every foster gives hope.
Every volunteer, donor, transporter, and supporter becomes part of that story.

Boone never asked for much.
Just a quiet place to belong. 🤎

At 5 years old, this gentle 65 lb boy has already mastered the art of being the perfect companion:
✔️ Calm and affectionate
✔️ Great with kids, dogs, and cats
✔️ House trained and wonderful on leash
✔️ Low-maintenance and respectful indoors

But Boone’s heart may be even more special than his manners.

He peacefully lived alongside raccoons, opossums, squirrels, pot-bellied pigs… and now spends his days fascinated by baby squirrels while gently sharing moments with kittens. 🥹

Despite being abandoned and never reclaimed, Boone still chooses love every single day.

He is currently undergoing slow-kill heartworm treatment and searching for a calm, loving home to finally call his own.

Boone is proof that the gentlest souls are often the ones overlooked the longest. 💔

Dax remembers what it feels like to be loved.

Once rescued from the euthanasia list as a puppy, Dax was adopted and thought he had found forever. Recently, he was found running along the highway alone. When the shelter scanned his chip, NETRO answered… but his previous owner did not want him back.

Still, Dax keeps loving.

This handsome 2-year-old boy is affectionate, dog friendly, kid friendly, cat approved, and full of joyful energy. He keeps a spotless kennel, loves to please, and bounces straight into the air when he’s excited — like happiness trapped inside a dog.

Dax doesn’t need perfection.
He just needs someone who won’t give up on him.

Update on the two dogs found this morning

Thank you for sharing this heartbreaking story.

These dogs may have walked a very long distance.

They were originally found near Barefoot Bay which is almost 8 miles from Living Word Church area.

According to the information shared, they were living under a cabin.

They traveled 8 miles before being found again this morning eating trash near the road.

Thank you so much, Gloria Hendrickson Woolsey, for finding them and volunteering to foster them temporarily so they can be safe. ❤️

At this time, we still urgently need one more foster.

Two sweet girls were found this morning near Highway 11 between Pittsburg and Leesburg, close to Living Word Church. They were seen eating trash near the road, scared and hungry, but still staying close together. 💔

A kind person stopped, moved them under a shade tree, and gave them food and water. She plans to check on them again and knock on nearby doors to see if they belong to someone in the area.

What makes this even more heartbreaking is that people who travel this road often say they’ve never seen these dogs before. We are praying they were not abandoned. 😔

These girls are friendly, gentle, and clearly bonded to one another. They deserve safety, kindness, and a chance to either find their family or find a loving home.
