🎃👻 Tomorrow is Halloween!!! Safety tips for your pets 🐾

🍬 Keep the Candy Out of Reach!
Chocolate (especially dark and baking chocolate), grapes, raisins, and sugar-free treats containing xylitol can be extremely toxic to pets. Don't forget those candy wrappers, foil, and lollipop sticks, which can cause choking or dangerous intestinal blockages. Keep those trick-or-treat bags somewhere pets can't reach!

🚪 Give Your Pets a Quiet Place to Hide Out
Constant doorbell ringing, strangers in costumes, and an open front door can be stressful for even the friendliest pets. Set up a cozy, quiet room with water, a comfy bed, and a favorite toy. Sometimes the best Halloween party is one your pets don't attend!

🐕 Don't Let Your Little Furry Goblins Escape!
With doors opening and closing all evening, pets can easily slip outside. Make sure collars and ID tags are up to date and microchip information is current. Even pets who normally never wander can get spooked!

🦇 Costumes Should Be Cute AND Comfortable!
We all love a dog dressed as a pumpkin or a cat dressed as a little witch! But only dress your pet if they enjoy it. Make sure costumes don't restrict breathing, movement, vision, or hearing, and avoid small pieces they could chew off and swallow. If they aren't having fun, a festive bandana is just as adorable!

🕯️ Watch Out for Spooky Decorations!
Keep candles, glow sticks, fake cobwebs, electrical cords, and small decorative pieces out of paw's reach. 🌟Glow sticks can cause significant drooling and mouth irritation if chewed, while flames and cords can cause serious injuries 🌟

🚨 IMPORTANT If you suspect your pet has eaten chocolate, xylitol, or another potentially toxic substance, don't wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your vet or ASPCA Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435 right away 🚨

‼️Fleas Fleas Fleas! We are seeing them out in full force!
We had a mild winter last year and it is in the 70s right now, these little buggers are still out and about unfortunately.
We recommend pets have flea/tick/heartworm prevention ALL YEAR Round for this reason. Natural or pharmaceutical preventions are both great, just as long as your pet is covered!
Here is an informative chart for natural treatment. We also recommend Cedar Oil spray for natural prevention.
🌟If you use topical pharmaceutical products, and you bathe your pet with a soap based product, you will strip off your monthly preventative as it lies in the oil glands on the pets. Washing with soap based products is the number one reason monthly preventatives fail. 🌟
If bathing your pet (and you use topical prevention), you should use an oil based shampoo such as a coconut oil based pet shampoo to not strip your pet. Dipping a flea comb into soapy water to coat the comb, as shown, in the picture will not strip the pets' oil glands - this is just a spot treatment if you see fleas on your pet. In many cases, a combination of both natural and pharmaceutical is the best way to combat an infestation.

For instance, if I have a flea infested animal:

1️⃣ I would wash with Palmolive or Dawn dish soap (it kills fleas completely). 2️⃣ I would use an oil based natural repellant like cedar oil or the vinegar spray to get me to the 24-48 hr. point when I could then use a topical adulticide ( assuming it was safe for the pet).
3️⃣ I would apply the product for the month (and use monthly for at least 4 months straight but all year round recommended)
4️⃣ I would vacuum vacuum vacuum since the eggs and larva are in the carpet. 😬
In the event you are facing a flea infestation, we recommend that you call us so we can design the right program for you and your pet😜

🚨 PSA — The Rut is Real!🦌🚗

Deer mating season, known as THE RUT, is underway! That means bucks have one thing on their minds, and their hormones are running HIGH! 😅🦌

⚠️ PLEASE BE EXTRA VIGILANT WHEN DRIVING — EVEN DURING THE DAY!

🦌 Young bucks may chase does across roads at ANY time of day.

🚗 Slow down in areas where deer are common, especially near wooded areas and fields.

👀 Watch for one deer, but be prepared for more! Deer often travel in groups.

💡 If a deer suddenly crosses in front of you, brake firmly if it's safe to do so, but DON'T SWERVE into oncoming traffic or off the road.

The rut can continue into November, depending on the area, so stay alert!

Please drive safely this season. Your life AND the lives of our wildlife are both 'deer' to us! ❤️🦌 (Yep, pun absolutely intended! 😉)

As Promised!!! The adorable puppies!!! 🐾💕

They will be 5 months old tomorrow!
Mom is Frenchie Dad... who knows 🤷‍♀️

They can be adopted now but will need to come back to HousePaws at 6 months old to be fixed.

Since Paws Give Me Purpose Inc. are a Sanctuary for senior, special needs & hospice dogs, adoptions are being handled by one of their rescue partners, Remember Me Rescue NY.
