Rabies prevention isn’t just for outdoor pets—it’s essential for *all* pets, including indoor-only cats.

Recently, a local household experienced a close call when a rabid bat made its way inside the home, exposing their cats. Fortunately, these pets were up to date on their rabies vaccinations. Because of this, they only required a booster vaccine and a short quarantine period.

This situation could have been far more serious if the cats had not been vaccinated. In unvaccinated pets, rabies exposure can lead to strict, prolonged quarantines or even more severe outcomes.

Bats can and do enter homes, creating unexpected risks for both pets and people. Keeping your pet current on rabies vaccination is a simple, effective way to protect your entire household.

If you’re unsure about your pet’s vaccination status, now is a great time to check your records or give us a call.

Only three cats were known to have been exposed to the bat and had already received vaccinations for rabies, Camden County officials said.

🦟 **Mosquito Season Is Here — Protect Your Pets!** 🐾

We’re already seeing a surge in mosquitoes — I personally just found *seven* in my kitchen alone 😳 — which means even **indoor pets are at risk**.

Mosquitoes aren’t just a nuisance… they can transmit **heartworm disease**, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition in both dogs and cats.

🐶 **Dogs:** Heartworm disease can damage the heart, lungs, and blood vessels — and treatment can be costly and intensive.
🐱 **Cats:** Even a small number of heartworms can cause severe respiratory issues, and there is **no approved treatment** for heartworms in cats.

💊 **The good news:** Heartworm disease is **easy to prevent** with monthly prevention prescribed by your veterinarian.

✔️ Keep pets on **year-round heartworm prevention**
✔️ Don’t assume indoor pets are safe
✔️ Contact us if your pet needs a refill or hasn’t been tested

📞 Call Larchmont Animal Hospital today to make sure your pet is protected!

Let’s keep our furry family members safe this season ❤️🐾
