Our team is working diligently to provide compassionate care to the cats arriving from the property near A&W. While welcoming these new animals, our staff continues to care for the pets already in our shelter and maintain the programs and services our community relies on every day.

We know many people are eager to see these cats placed into foster homes immediately. However, because they are arriving with unknown medical and behavioral histories, doing so would not be in their best interest—or their safety—at this time.

Each cat is receiving medical evaluations, appropriate housing, and individualized care. Many of these cats are under-socialized. They deserve the opportunity to decompress, recover, and be handled safely by trained professionals while completing necessary quarantines and medical treatment. Giving them this time is essential to setting them up for long-term success.

We also want to acknowledge that many people are looking for frequent updates on this situation. Please know that there is a process to caring for animals in circumstances like this. Just because you are not seeing constant updates or news does not mean progress is not being made. Much of the most important work happens behind the scenes. Our staff has been working tirelessly—often long hours—to evaluate each cat, provide medical care, monitor behavior, coordinate with our partners, and ensure every decision is made with the animals' well-being as the priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we focus our time and energy where it matters most: providing each animal with the care they deserve.

If you represent a rescue or animal shelter that may be interested in transferring some of these cats into your organization, please contact us at [email protected].

This case is requiring an extraordinary amount of time, space, and resources during our busiest season. HSoP remains committed to providing quality care and support to the pets of Latah County, and we are deeply grateful for your continued encouragement and generosity.

We are still accepting donations of:
🐾 Science Diet cat food
🐾 Pellet litter
🐾 Liquid laundry detergent
🐾 Bleach

The Humane Society of the Palouse has been working closely with the Moscow Police Department to receive the cats from the property across from A&W in Moscow.
As each cat arrives at HSoP, they are receiving an intake evaluation and being scanned for a microchip. If you believe one of these cats may be your missing pet, please email a recent photo and a description of your cat to [email protected]. Our staff will compare that information with the cats currently in our care.
Tomorrow, our veterinarian will perform comprehensive examinations on each cat in our care to assess their individual medical needs and develop a treatment plan. Each cat's path forward will depend on their condition, and we are committed to providing the care they need to be healthy and adoptable.
We know many members of our community have been deeply concerned about these cats, and we appreciate everyone who has spoken up on their behalf. We also ask for your patience and understanding. Just because you don't see immediate updates doesn't mean action isn't being taken. Animal welfare investigations and coordinated responses often take time, and we are grateful to the Moscow Police Department for their action and partnership in ensuring these cats are now safe.
If you would like to help, we are currently accepting donations to support their care. Our greatest immediate needs include:• Hill's Science Diet cat food• Bleach• Laundry detergent• Monetary donations to help cover veterinary care and ongoing expenses.
Donations can be made through our website at www.humanesocietyofthepalouse.org/donate or dropped off at the shelter at 2019 E. White Ave. Moscow, ID 83843.
This case is in the height of kitten season, and requires a huge amount of resources for our organization.
Thank you for helping us give them the care and second chance they deserve. 💙🐾
