Police Deploy K-9 to Uncover Concealed Fi***rm in Hillsboro Threatening Incident

HILLSBORO, N.H. — A local man faces multiple felony charges after allegedly pointing a gun at a passing motorist on Friday afternoon, triggering a police response that ultimately led to a K-9 search and the recovery of a hidden fi***rm.

Officers responded to Windsor Road around 3:00 p.m. on October 23, 2026, following a call from a resident who reported that a man had aimed a handgun at her vehicle as she drove past.

Upon arrival, police located the suspect, identified as 67-year-old Sterling Silva of Hillsboro. While an initial search of Silva did not yield a weapon, investigators pursued leads suggesting one had been discarded nearby.

A fi***rm-detection K-9 unit was deployed to sweep a adjacent wooded area. The K-9 successfully alerted officers to a handgun and a loaded magazine concealed under a pile of leaves near the base of a tree.

Silva was taken into custody and charged with multiple counts of:

Criminal Threatening

Falsifying Physical Evidence

Reckless Conduct with a Deadly Weapon

Silva is currently being held without bail at the county jail pending his arraignment, scheduled for Monday, October 26, 2026.

The Hillsboro Police Department asks anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses relevant information to contact their main line.

This boy has been such a fun project, I’m going to miss him when he leaves next week!

His 4 grandparents, and both of his parents, are some of my favorite working labs, and this puppy is such a nice blend of them all.
He really is:
Bugs’ enthusiasm
Taboo’s clear head
Wicked’s power
Dice’s nose
Juice’s grittiness
Tenet’s insatiable work ethic

I love when a whole breadth of pedigree expresses itself in a puppy.

I’m so grateful and honored to have gotten the opportunity to speak at the National Detection Dog Conference about my experiences growing a breeding & vending business. It was a really humbling moment to be able to present alongside TSA’s procurement team and highlight some of many things I’ve learned over the last ten years.

So much great networking, knowledge sharing, and new opportunities to absorb from the last couple days- but for now, back to the grind of getting greenies prepped for fall classes!

That’s a good boy, Kip!

Nice job to K9 Kip & Sgt Brangi on this bust- that’s a big one!
