🍂 The weather is cooling off, but fleas aren’t going anywhere! 🐾

As temperatures drop, fleas look for warm, protected environments—and your home provides the perfect place to survive. Fleas can move indoors on pets, clothing, shoes, or other animals and then settle into warm areas such as carpets, bedding, furniture, and cracks in flooring.

Once inside, fleas can continue their life cycle year-round. This means that even when it’s cold outside, your pet can still be exposed to fleas in the comfort of their own home.

🐱 And yes—even indoor-only cats can get fleas! Fleas can easily hitch a ride inside with people, dogs, other pets, or wildlife. You may never see a flea outside or notice one on your pet before an infestation begins.

That’s why year-round flea prevention is so important. Keeping your pets consistently protected helps prevent fleas from becoming a problem for both your pet and your home.

Let us introduce you to Kate, one of our senior veterinary assistants. Kate has been working in vet med for over 7 years. Kate has been with BPPAH the entire time! Kate started as a kennel assistant and moved to vet assistant when Dr. Bailey and Dr. McQuiddy purchased the practice. She is currently in school to become a veterinary technician. Kate has a cat that only has three legs, his name is Samson, and he is always happy to meet people. Outside of work, she mostly spends time with her very close-knit family.

🐾 Why Annual Exams Are So Important for Your Pets

Our pets can’t tell us when something hurts or when they don’t feel quite right. That’s why regular veterinary exams are one of the most important things we can do to protect their health and well-being.

❤️ For young pets:
Puppies and kittens are growing and changing quickly. Annual—or more frequent, depending on age and their veterinarian’s recommendations—wellness visits help monitor growth and development, keep vaccinations and parasite prevention up to date, assess nutrition and behavior, and catch potential health problems early.

🐾 For adult pets:
Pets often hide signs of illness until a condition has progressed. Routine examinations allow veterinarians to establish what is normal for your pet and detect subtle changes in weight, teeth, skin, heart, lungs, and overall health before they become bigger problems.

🩷 For senior pets:
As pets age, their risk for conditions such as arthritis, dental disease, kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes, and other age-related problems increases. Meet Sarah M., one of our stellar veterinary assistants. She has always had a love for animals and spent most of her time growing up around horses. In the last 16 years, Sarah has worked her way up from kennel technician to vet assistant. Sarah is currently enrolled in Penn Foster, pursuing her Veterinary Technician License. She is originally from Oklahoma, but has lived in Maine, New York, Florida and North Carolina due to her husband being in the US Coast Guard. Sarah shares her home with her fur babies Calypso – 3 1/2 yr old Aussie, Stuart – 14 yr old cat and Dango – a 7-yr crested gecko. In her spare time, Sarah likes gardening, combing the beach for treasures and crafting. Fun fact: In high school, she was in FFA where she raised show pigs to earn a State Degree from the Oklahoma FFA Association. While stationed in New York, she took that knowledge and mentored a young 4H chapter on how to better raise and show their pig projects and served as a judge for the Oswego County Fair for 3 years.

Looking for a new furry companion?

Callie is looking for her furever home! She is a six-year-old female Siberian husky. she is spayed and up-to-date on vaccines. Looking to rehome ASAP. Very sweet and great with kids. Good with other animals except for ducks and chickens. Would benefit from having a lot of land to run or someone to take her on daily walks. Located in the Moore County - Aberdeen area. Sara D. is one of our excellent veterinary assistants. She has been in Veterinary Medicine for over 10 years. She also has experience with boarding and grooming. Sara has a passion for animals and makes them as comfortable as possible. She is currently doing online school to work towards getting her Vet Technician License. She loves working with our dental patients and helping her team on a daily basis. Outside of work you can find Sara hiking with her dog in the woods or reading a book! At home she has three cats (Molly, Curtis and Obi) and one dog (Bugsy). Be warned, if your dog resembles hers, she will let you know and probably show you a picture!
