We are a local non-profit, selective intake, animal shelter in Monticello, Fl located in Jefferson County, Florida. All funds raised go to support the animals, providing shelter, food, medical care and love. All our volunteers are committed to helping the animals in our community by providing service to the public through education, various fund raising events, animal awareness programs, rescue an

Located at 315 North Jefferson Street in Monticello. Please donate gently used items during operating hours, All proceeds benefit the animals at the shelter. Monetary donations can be sent to the shelter at:

*Collars and Leashes
*Dog and Cat Treats
•Baby receiving blankets
•Cleaning supplies, paper towels, dawn liquid detergent.
* KMR (kitten milk replacer)
•Animal crates (all sizes)
*Animal Transport carriers (for cats & Small dogs)
•Animal toys ( Cat & Dog)
•Heavy duty garden hoses

Volunteers are always welcome at the shelter and Wag the Dog thrift store. You can help by walking dogs, petting cats, cleaning, and general maintenance at the shelter. At the thrift shop, volunteers help organize, clean and sort donated goods. Every animal benefits when you volunteer your time. Current Board Members:

Hey there, I'm Susie, please share I'm available for adoption🤗. I was luckily found with my puppies out on a road very malnourished, needing food, and lots of love. My puppy, Pebbles, is growing up and we finally got some much-needed weight put back on. It's been so nice being able to be with Epic Pups, and graduate, where I got to learn so many new tricks and got to see how nice everyone is. My little pup is still with them and turning into an outstanding girl. I love to cuddle up and just want to be in your lap, but I also love to play with other dogs. I am timid of cats but could do well if they are around. Please come by and see how sweet of girl I am.

Everyday is unique and you never have enough time if you are in rescue.

Yesterday, during the Watermelon Festival we got a call from our friends at Leon County Animal Services. Lil Bit, a puppy we adopted out 3.6 years ago, had been turned in on 6/14 with two other little dogs to be euthanized...the owner was moving.

Please don't get mad at Animal Services, like lots of places, owner surrenders are quickly euthanized so owners of Strays have a chance. We are in the middle of an animal crisis due to Backyard breeding, "accidental litters", crappy owners, etc (another story).

I reached out to who adopted the dog from us. He said he had allowed his x to keep Lil Bit when they split. She lives here in Monticello but it was her son who claimed to be owner and took the dogs to be euthanized.
Lil Bit was only saved due to Animal Services reaching out to us because of our microchip. We asked for the other two who were smaller but they were euthanized before we found out 😭.

Hey everyone, it's me, Roxy. I have been sprung for the weekend 🤣for meet and greets. I am an Epic Pups graduate. I've been having an amazing time learning new tricks and getting to meet new friends. You should see what I've learned so far🤗 I am only 1y 4m and the sweetest girl. I love to be with other dogs, playing, hanging out with the kiddos and I'm okay with cats. Please come by and see me. We wanted to share a positive update on the little senior dog who was abandoned at our shelter. We are calling her Jenny as we still don’t know her name.

The good news is that she is already doing so much better. She is receiving veterinary care, has been cleaned up, and for the first time in who knows how long, she is no longer crying in constant pain and discomfort. She is resting comfortably, being loved, and getting everything she needs.

As this story continues to unfold, we have received information from several community members stating that the dog’s original owner passed away approximately four years ago and that she has reportedly been in the care of the gentleman who abandoned her ever since.

The individual who left her at the shelter has now been identified, and a Sheriff’s report has been filed. However, we are still working to piece together the full timeline of events and understand how this dog ended up in the condition she was found in.

If you have firsthand knowledge of this situation, documentation, photos, veterinary records, or any information that can help confirm the timeline or provide additional details about this dog’s history, please reach out. Any information could be helpful as we continue our investigation.

Thank you to everyone who has shared her story, checked on her, and shown concern for her well-being. While she still has a long road ahead, she is finally safe.

🐾 EPIC Pups Class Update 🐾

This week marks the first week of training for our newest Epic Pups class!

Over the next 4 months, these dogs will receive intensive one-on-one training from four dedicated inmate handlers assigned to each dog. Throughout the program, they will work on basic obedience, confidence building, socialization with a variety of people, and positive interactions with the other dogs in their class.

The EPIC Pups program is a unique opportunity for both the dogs and the handlers. Out of approximately 1,200 inmates, only 70 have been selected to participate in this program, making it a truly special privilege earned through hard work and dedication.

This class includes 8 dogs, each with their own story and personality. Read below each photo to learn more about them and follow along as they progress through their training journey. All dogs are adoptable and can be pulled from the program early for adoption! We can’t wait to see how much they grow over the next few months!

Available for adoption😁Foxy here is a very loving and play girl. She is only 8 months old and weighs 33lbs. She does have some good energy but really loves to lay in your lap or by your side. She walks well on a leash with a harness but is excited at first when she gets to go out. She seems to do okay with the kitty cats and does like to see other dogs. Available for adoption. Please please share. There's nothing but sweetness with this girl Honey. Honey here is a very playful and affectionate pup. She is only 10 months old and at a fantastic weight of 30lbs. She does have a lot of energy but loves having toys to play with. All she wants is to be by your side. She seems to do well with cats, good with kiddos, and likes other dogs. Honey is fixed, microchipped, rabies and Utd on vaccines.
