Meet Petunia and Carl, two adorable pug siblings who recently got into their parent’s gum stash. What seemed like innocent mischief turned serious quickly, as many sugar-free gums contain xylitol, a substance that’s highly toxic to dogs.

Xylitol can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar within hours and, in some cases, can lead to acute liver failure. It’s a true veterinary emergency.

Thankfully, Petunia and Carl were in the expert hands of Dr. Lauren Bracchi, a Criticalist at MedVet Vancouver. With IV fluids, glucose support, and round-the-clock care, both pups pulled through and are now home, resting and recovering well.

🔔 Pet Safety Tip: If your pet ingests anything sugar-free such as gum, mints, peanut butter, baked goods, get to a veterinarian immediately. Xylitol toxicity can escalate quickly, even in small amounts — learn more about the risks in our blog post: https://hubs.la/Q03CMgsc0

Meet Scout, MedVet Vancouver's very first Oncology patient and now a chemotherapy graduate!

After visits with our Internal Medicine and ER teams, Scout was diagnosed with lymphoma and began the CHOP protocol under the care of our Oncology team. Through every step, she showed strength, sweetness, and serious tail wags.

Today, we’re celebrating her graduation from treatment with lots of love (and maybe a few treats). We’re so proud of you, Scout!

After a suspected rattlesnake bite left him with severe facial swelling and bleeding, Murphy was rushed to MedVet Jupiter. Thanks to the quick actions of Dr. Amanda Pisano and our ER team, he received life-saving care including antivenin, plasma transfusions, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to reduce swelling and aid healing.

After several days at our hospital, 8 vials of antivenin, 15 HBOT sessions, and a whole lot of love, Murphy made an amazing recovery. His family shares that he’s doing wonderfully at home, and we’re so happy to have played a part in his story. Way to go, Murphy! 💪
