What a weekend! We stepped into our first rated show as a farm, with several riders also making their rated-show debuts, at the PSJ Summer Sizzler II in Aiken!

Our two geldings, Above The Cloudline and Out Of The Blue, had a fantastic three days putting in their first Pre-Green miles, while our riders took on their Long Stirrup debuts!

FRIDAY

Above The Cloudline, ridden by Head Trainer Reily, tied for Champion in the Pre-Green division and finished Reserve Champion!

Out Of The Blue, ridden by Assistant Trainer Abby Callahan, was right behind him, narrowly missing the Reserve title. The boys finished 1st and 2nd in the Pre-Green flat among a beautiful group of horses. Thrilled is an understatement!

SATURDAY

Abby and Out Of The Blue returned to the Pre-Green division and earned Champion in the class. While the division unfortunately did not fill, it was a great schooling opportunity and another chance to show just how much potential Blue has.

In Long Stirrup:
• Summer Stark & Above The Cloudline — 1st Hunter Flat, 4th & 5th over fences
• Leilah Ortiz & Out Of The Blue — 3rd Hunter Flat, 2nd Equitation O/F, 3rd & 4th Hunter O/F

SUNDAY

Summer and Above The Cloudline kept the momentum going with another 1st in the Hunter Flat and 3rd & 4th over fences, finishing Reserve Champion in the Long Stirrup Hunter division!

Leilah and Out Of The Blue added a 4th in the Hunter Flat and 2nd & 4th over fences to round out their weekend.

It was a huge weekend of learning, firsts, and progress for this group. Summer has only jumped fences at two shows EVER, while Leilah brought her green horse to his very first rated show!

We could not be more proud of all of them and these two special geldings. We learned a ton, made some great memories, and have plenty to build on heading into the fall season.

Now, onto finishing out 2026 strong and getting ready to chase those 2027 points! 💪🏼

We’ve been soaking up the summer weather at Davis Ranch LLC with group rides, Girl Scout groups, horse shows, welcoming LOTS of new riders, and (our favorite part!) watching riders take exciting steps into new adventures!

Last month, we had the pleasure of hosting another Girl Scout group as they worked toward earning their horsemanship badges. We love getting to share the horses and the sport with new groups and young riders!

And a very special congratulations to our favorite senior rider turned adult amateur, Lexi English! 🥹 Lexi, Abby’s younger sibling, is taking her first steps into collegiate life and IHSA at Emory & Henry University, home to a wonderful collegiate equestrian program. We had the pleasure of filling that big sister role, taking a gander around campus during move in week, and reminiscing about Abby and my own intercollegiate days at St. Andrews University. We are SO excited for you, Lexi! 🎓

This week, we’re headed to the Highfields Event Center in Aiken for the Progressive Show Jumping Summer Sizzler II for some of our riders first looks at rated USEF/USHJA competition, along with our young horses making their first rated debuts at the “C” level. We’ll be taking baby steps into the Pre-Green and Long Stirrup divisions and are so excited to watch everyone take on these new challenges!

It’s been an exciting few months, and we’re looking forward to closing out the summer series and heading into all the Fall shenanigans! 🍂🐴

A few updated looks at some of our available lesson/lease horses & ponies! ✨

We have some exciting opportunities available for riders looking to get more time in the saddle, gain show experience, and be part of our team this Fall season. With a full schedule of local shows ahead and rated hunter/jumper shows starting in August, there are plenty of opportunities to get out and compete!

We are heading home from an amazing week at the State 4-H horse show! ☘️ 🐴

A very special shout out to the newest member of our show team and our only western rider Mckenna Aardema! Mckenna had to make some big adjustments when the horse she took to district was unfortunately no longer available, she has spent the last 8 weeks not only getting to know Obi but also teaching him all about western! We are so grateful that Mckenna was able to join us this year and put in some fantastic rounds for her second ever horse show and Obi’s first western classes!

Came out 8th Rookie Western Showmanship, 7th Rookie Western Horsemanship, and 3rd Rookie Western Pleasure in a group of 10 other competitive girls!

🌻A special shout out to Abby Callahan our assistant trainer who has taken on the role as western specialist and got these two to where they are!🤠

And of course we couldn’t have gotten where we are without our amazing sponsors!! What a week for our English riders at the NC 4-H State Horse Show! 🍀💛

State is always a tough show, and this group represented our club with determination, sportsmanship, and so much heart. Every rider came home with new experience, new goals, and plenty to be proud of.

✨ Lexi & “Above The Cloudline” tackled an incredibly competitive division of 30 riders, earning 9th in Hunter Flat and 6th in the Bridle Path Hack! With two callbacks, these two put in a full day’s work, staying focused through fantastic flat rounds, a beautiful hack, and solid Equitation Over Fences trips. They were just out of the ribbons in a few classes, but bringing this young horse through tough competition with consistency and effort was rewarded!

🏆 Leilah Ortiz & “Out Of The Blue” have had this show circled on the calendar for nearly a year, and all that hard work paid off! They brought home a bright blue 1st place ribbon in the X-Rails and two 4th place finishes in a competitive Long Stirrup division of seven riders. It was so rewarding to watch their dedication shine in the ring!

🌟 Phoebe Moore & “Pickles” aka Obi absolutely rocked just their second show together (with the first being the qualifying district show! 🤪). They earned 4th in the X-Rails and a callback that led to 9th overall in Rookie Equitation Flat out of 17 riders. Congratulations, my little pony kid! You worked hard for every ribbon!

💙 Alice Robinson & “Red De Eyes On” stepped into just their third horse show together and faced a strong Rookie division of 17 riders. They earned 5th in the X-Rails and were just outside the ribbons in their flat classes! More importantly, they head home with confidence, experience, and plenty of new skills to build on for next year ☺️ We are so grateful to have Alice on the team!

I’m incredibly proud of every one of these riders. State is about challenging yourself, learning from every round, supporting your teammates, and celebrating the progress you’ve made along the way, and this team did exactly that!

Now we’re cheering on our final competitor as our little western rider takes on the Rookie Western Division tomorrow before everyone heads home for some very well-deserved rest! 🤠💙
