🐱 July is National Pet Loss Prevention Month! 🐶
Millions of pets go missing from their homes each year, but did you know that July is the busiest time of the year for pets, both dogs and cats alike, to get lost? 🐾
There are quite a few reasons for this, including the loud noises and festivities around the summer holidays, more outdoor activities in the warmer months, and the increase in pets traveling with their families to places they aren't familiar with. While many missing pets do get reunited with their people safely, not all pets are so lucky, and many are not found. Dogs are more likely to be found and returned if they get lost than cats are.
We love our patients and want them all to have a safe and happy summer! Here are some tips to help prevent your furry friend from getting lost. 🐾
🐾 Make sure your pet's microchip information is u to date with the best phone number to reach you and your emergency contact.
🐾 Keep all doors closed and secured to prevent unexpected door dashing if a sudden sound scares your pet. If you have a fenced-in yard, be sure to check that gates are locked and that there are no holes being dug under the edge.
🐾 Even if they normally do not wear them at home, consider keeping a collar with updated contact information on the tag fur the warmer months.
🐾 When traveling with your pet, keep them in a secure carrier or ensure they are wearing a properly-fitted collar or harness with a leash attached.
🐾 Consider making an emergency kit for your pet while traveling that includes copies of their medical records and recent photos of your pet.
🐾 If you're especially worried about the risk of your pet getting lost, consider using an additional safety measure for finding them, like an airtag on their collar or a collar with a GPS tracker feature. These are great new options to help keep track of your pet, but should not be relied on as the only protection against getting lost.
