It’s Check the Chip Day 2025!

This year marks more than 40 years that microchips have been used to help keep track of our furry friends, and what used to be rare is now something most pets have to help keep them safe. Pets who are microchipped have a much higher chance of being reunited with their family if they get lost than pets who are not microchipped. But, your pet’s chip is only helpful if you make sure your information is up to date and accurate!

Take a few minutes today to log into you pet’s microchip company’s website to make sure you have the correct address, phone number, and email address in their file. You can add secondary contact information for family members as emergency contacts, and you should make sure the picture on your pet’s file is a fresh one that looks like them! Many people haven’t updated it since their pet was a baby, so take a few minutes now and make sure it’s all accurate.

Check out perfect little Poppy showing off the importance of confirming your pet’s microchip during her visit today!

🐱 July is National Pet Loss Prevention Month! 🐶

Millions of pets go missing from their homes each year, but did you know that July is the busiest time of the year for pets, both dogs and cats alike, to get lost? 🐾

There are quite a few reasons for this, including the loud noises and festivities around the summer holidays, more outdoor activities in the warmer months, and the increase in pets traveling with their families to places they aren't familiar with. While many missing pets do get reunited with their people safely, not all pets are so lucky, and many are not found. Dogs are more likely to be found and returned if they get lost than cats are.

We love our patients and want them all to have a safe and happy summer! Here are some tips to help prevent your furry friend from getting lost. 🐾

🐾 Make sure your pet's microchip information is u to date with the best phone number to reach you and your emergency contact.
🐾 Keep all doors closed and secured to prevent unexpected door dashing if a sudden sound scares your pet. If you have a fenced-in yard, be sure to check that gates are locked and that there are no holes being dug under the edge.
🐾 Even if they normally do not wear them at home, consider keeping a collar with updated contact information on the tag fur the warmer months.
🐾 When traveling with your pet, keep them in a secure carrier or ensure they are wearing a properly-fitted collar or harness with a leash attached.
🐾 Consider making an emergency kit for your pet while traveling that includes copies of their medical records and recent photos of your pet.
🐾 If you're especially worried about the risk of your pet getting lost, consider using an additional safety measure for finding them, like an airtag on their collar or a collar with a GPS tracker feature. These are great new options to help keep track of your pet, but should not be relied on as the only protection against getting lost.

Want to have your pet's microchip scanned at no cost to get their microchip ID number and to confirm it has been registered? Give our office a call to see what time would work with our schedule. We'd love to work together to make sure your furry family stays right where they belong—at home with you!

In this heat wave, it is important to be extra cautious with our furry friends! Heat stroke can occur quickly and without warning, and if the body is not cooled down properly at an appropriate pace, it can have extreme consequences.

If you are concerned that you are seeing signs of heat stroke in your pet, it is vital that you get your pet into a cool area and call us or your local emergency vet immediately.

Be safe! 🌞
