The wild BLM donkeys have been getting a little braver lately! 🫏👀

Today they wandered up closer to one of our vehicles than we’ve ever seen before. We couldn’t help but laugh watching them all gather around.

“What is this strange metal creature?”

“Does it eat hay?”

“Can we trust it?”

“Steve, go sniff it and report back.” 😂

It’s moments like these that remind us how curious and intelligent donkeys truly are. Watching this herd slowly become more comfortable with their surroundings has been such a privilege.

Today we received news that was difficult to hear about our sweet Ray Ray.

We learned that there is unfortunately very little that can be done for his eyes. Ray Ray has suffered for years with severely swollen tear ducts, and over time the resulting scar tissue has permanently sealed them shut. The only option to attempt to reopen them would be an extremely costly, high-risk surgery to reconstruct part of his nasal cavity.

While this wasn’t the outcome we were hoping for, there is some good news. The veterinarian is pleased with what he is seeing right now. The tissue is healthy, there is no infection present, and our fly prevention efforts are doing exactly what they need to do.

Because of his condition, Ray Ray will officially become part of Circle H Haven’s sanctuary herd. He will spend the rest of his days surrounded by friends, receiving the care, comfort, and love he deserves.

Some stories don’t get the happy ending we wish for, but every animal deserves dignity, compassion, and a safe place to call home. We may not be able to fix what years of neglect have done, but we can make sure Ray Ray never knows another day without love.

Please keep Ray Ray in your thoughts as we continue to give him the best quality of life possible. ❤️🐴

Worried about a quarantine? New World screwworm movement restriction zones work much different than other infectious disease quarantines.

✅Animals can still move! Animals are able to move into and out of the zone as soon as they meet TAHC requirements.

✅Checkpoints are quick and simple! Trailers moving through an infested zone must stop at TAHC checkpoints. If animals are coming from outside of an infested zone and intend to keep moving through the zone to an address outside of the zone, they will receive educational outreach and be allowed to keep moving.

✅TAHC will work with you to avoid interrupting continuity of business! Call the TAHC as soon as you know you want to move animals out of an infested zone. We will schedule an inspection and advise you on how to meet requirements to keep your animals moving safely.

Our sweet donkey Spice has come such a long way since joining Circle H Haven. 🤍🌼

When Spice first arrived, she was unsure and needed time to learn that she was safe. Through patience, kindness, and a lot of love, she has blossomed into the beautiful girl she is today.

Now she greets us with her gentle eyes, curious personality, and sweet spirit that melts hearts wherever she goes. Watching her gain confidence and trust has been one of the greatest joys of rescue.

🥵 Nala has officially filed a complaint….

Apparently, sitting in an air conditioned truck between watering is now her preferred job description. We recently started moving some of our dogs outside more often, and judging by Nala’s expression, she is absolutely not impressed with this decision. 😂

With a Heat Advisory in effect and temperatures expected to reach well over 100°, please remember to keep a close eye on your animals. Make sure they have:

💧 Plenty of fresh, cool water
🌳 Access to shade throughout the day
🧊 Extra cooling options when possible
🐾 Limited activity during the hottest parts of the day
🚗 Never leave pets unattended in vehicles

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke can happen quickly, especially for senior animals, puppies, livestock, and animals with thick coats.

We’re spending our day rotating through water troughs, checking animals, and making sure everyone stays as comfortable as possible. Nala, however, has decided she will be supervising all operations in the
a/c.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and give your animals a little extra attention during this heat wave. 🤍

☀️🤠 Our Summer Camp friends at The Bush Family Home were able to learn some lasso skills today, and judging by all the smiles, we think they had just as much fun as we did!

There’s something special about introducing kids to western traditions, animal care, and hands-on learning. From swinging a rope to spending time with our miniature horses, these experiences help build confidence, responsibility, and compassion.

At Circle H Haven, we believe it’s so important to foster a love for animals at an early age. Today’s campers not only learned a new skill, but they also learned the value of patience, kindness, and respect for the animals that make our rescue so special.

Thank you to everyone who spent part of their day with us. We loved sharing our little piece of the ranch with you! ❤️🐴
