Training Tools
Educate yourself on the tool you choose to use. Here I have my different length slip leads (my go to tool), a martingale collar, prong collar, and one of the muzzles I use.
Last night I took Liam on a walk, about 100yards away 2 younger kids were walking their dogs. The power of the one dog caused the child to let go and came charging for Liam. I was able to grab a hold of the leash, which was connected to a prong collar, until the dog slipped out of the collar. Luckily I was able to control the off leash dog and defused the situation until a parent arrived.
This could have been avoided for many reasons I could rant about but the last straw was the prong collar not being fitted properly. It seemed as the owner slipped the collar over its head rather than taking out the extra links for a snug and proper fit.
Please educate yourself or seek professional help when using a new tool or if you’re unsure how it works. The prong collar is a magnificent training tool when used properly with precision. Devices such as the prong and e-collar have received backlash because the handler error.
Situations like this happen all the time and I’m grateful no human or dog was harmed. They can also be avoided by taking the time to learn how to properly use the tool.
