🐕 𝗜𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺? 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀, 𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀?

That was Amran.

She loved to let everyone know when someone was approaching the yard — including me when I arrived for training sessions!

While alert barking is natural, it can quickly become frustrating while dogs struggle to stay calm. 🤣

Through training, Amran and Doug, her dog parent, learned several powerful techniques that helped transform her behavior.

One of the most useful was teaching a "mark" (target) behavior.

Instead of fixating on a person or dog, Amran learned to come touch her owner's hand on cue, giving her a positive way to disengage from the trigger and refocus.

They also practiced LAT (Look At That), a game that rewards dogs for calmly noticing a trigger without reacting.

Over time, Amran discovered she didn't need to bark every time she saw something exciting.

Another key lesson? Being quiet pays! ✨

Whether she was watching from the window or spending time in the yard, Amran was rewarded for calm choices BEFORE barking started.

Little by little, those calm moments became longer and more frequent.

Because Amran is a high-energy herding breed, we also needed an outlet for her excitement. Food rewards alone weren't enough. 🐾

By redirecting her energy into play, such as a flirt pole session, she could channel her enthusiasm in a productive way.

🐕 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝘆? 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆? 𝗬𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲.

One of the biggest puppy training secrets is this: training tools are only a small part of the process. Your mindset plays an even bigger role.

Here are 5 ways to stay calm and make progress:

✔️ Stay present. Don't dwell on yesterday's challenges or worry about tomorrow's. Focus on the positive moments you're sharing with your puppy today.

✔️ Take breaks when needed. If frustration is building, it's okay to safely crate your puppy and give yourself time to reset.

✔️ Shift your thinking. Instead of "My puppy won't listen," try asking, "How can I help my puppy succeed?" Curiosity creates solutions.

✔️ Celebrate small wins. Lasting behavior change happens one step at a time. Even a minute of improvement is worth recognizing.

✔️ Ask for support. Training is easier when you have positive people and professional guidance in your corner.

Remember: progress isn't perfection. The most successful puppy owners focus on small victories, stay flexible, and keep moving forward.

🐾🐕 Leash walks are enjoyable with your dog because your dog listens and walks nicely on the leash.

In this course, we'll meet for 4 weeks in June at various parks, at 6:15-7:15 pm.

Your dog will learn these commands:
• easy (walk loosely on the leash)
• target (when distracted your dog will redirect his / her attention back onto you)
• stay
• leave it (ignore distractions)
and more.

* Classes are small with only 4-7 dogs so you receive the attention that you deserve.

➡️ Start with something your dog loves. For some dogs, that's chicken, cheese, or hot dogs. For others, it's a tennis ball, tug toy, or squeaky toy. 🥎

➡️ Then check in with yourself.

Stressed? Take a few minutes to reset before training. Dogs are incredibly tuned in to our energy, so you want to start from a good place!

➡️ Next, make training easier..

* Want a better recall? Practice "come" in your living room before a busy park.
* Working on loose leash walking? Start in your backyard before heading into a distracting neighborhood.
* Struggling with jumping? Practice greetings with family members before guests arrive.

And here's the game-changer: focus on what your dog is doing RIGHT.

✨ Instead of correcting jumping, reward four paws on the floor.
✨ Instead of focusing on pulling, reward moments when the leash is loose.
✨ Instead of getting frustrated when your dog is slow to come, celebrate and reward every successful recall.

And keep sessions short, just 2–5 minutes at a time. You'll often get better results than with one long session.

Dog training doesn't have to be perfect. It should be fun, rewarding, and a chance to build a stronger connection with your dog. ❤️🐾

𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱? 🐕🐾

Loose leash walking can feel frustrating, but the good news is there’s a simple, gentle method that works fast for many dogs!

We recommend starting with a front-clip harness like a Freedom Harness or PetSafe Easy Walk Harness to help reduce pulling without harsh corrections. Then practice this easy training technique:

✨ The Circle Method ✨

Start in a low-distraction area like an empty parking lot or quiet sidewalk. Begin walking your dog in a large circle with your dog on the outside of the circle.

Why does this work?
✔ Your dog gets to move and burn energy
✔ Pulling no longer gets them where they want to go
✔ Your dog learns to focus on YOU instead of charging ahead

Here’s the key:
➡️ When your dog stops pulling hard, continue walking forward.
➡️ If they pull again, calmly return to walking in a circle.
➡️ Repeat consistently every time they pull.

At first, you may feel like you’re circling a lot—and that’s okay! Your dog is learning that a calmer leash gets them moving forward.

Don’t worry about achieving a perfectly loose leash right away. The goal is simply to stop being dragged down the street and create more enjoyable walks together.

With consistency, most dogs begin checking in with their owners, relaxing on walks, and understanding how to walk with a looser leash.

“𝗛𝗶𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗻𝗴…” 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗻𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿. 😅

Years ago, taking my 2-year-old daughter Iris and my dog Seiki on hikes felt nearly impossible.

Iris would cry after 20–30 minutes and want to go home, while Seiki still had energy to explore.

I often felt torn between meeting my toddler’s needs and giving my dog the exercise he deserved.

But after a lot of practice, patience, and trial-and-error, I realized something important:

➡️ Creating enjoyable hikes with toddlers and dogs is about so much more than obedience training.

Here are a few things that made a huge difference for us: ✨
• Lowering expectations and slowing down
• Letting my toddler explore and play during the hike
• Bringing fun activities like a sled or toys
• Rewarding positive moments and cooperation
• Listening when she was tired, cold, or overwhelmed
• Planning hikes around naps and energy levels

Once I stopped focusing on having the “perfect hike” and started focusing on making the experience enjoyable for everyone, our hikes became longer, calmer, and far more fun. 🐾

If you’re raising both a toddler and a dog, know that it takes patience — but it absolutely gets easier with the right approach.
