🐾💛 Meet Our Cats Ace Angel #12: Susan — A Pioneer for Mobile’s Community Cats 💛🐾
Some people see a problem…
Others become the solution.
Back in 2005, Susan came across a colony of around 30 cats living behind a business in Mobile. Sick kittens, injured cats, mothers struggling to survive… and no organization stepping in to help.
She reached out for support and was told something that changed everything:
No one was helping stray and feral cats.
So she decided to do it herself.
What started as one heartbreaking situation became the foundation of what is now the Azalea City Cat Coalition, a grassroots, volunteer-driven effort that has helped fix and care for thousands of cats over the years.
Today, Susan and her team manage multiple colonies, feeding 50 to 60 cats across different locations, from apartment complexes to gas stations and shopping areas where cats are often abandoned.
They don’t have a building.
They don’t have unlimited resources.
They are simply boots on the ground… showing up every day.
Through feeding, TNR, fostering, and medical care, they have helped bring awareness and change to their community, even helping introduce the concept of ear-tipping and TNR in their area.
But the challenges are still there:
Food is always needed.
Volunteers are limited.
Affordable veterinary care is hard to find.
And yet, they continue.
Because the cats are there.
And someone has to show up.
