Baxter Is Looking for His Person Again
Every evening, when the shelter starts to quiet down, Baxter waits.
Not for dinner.
Not for a walk.
Not for a toy.
He waits for the feeling of belonging.
For seven years, Baxter shared his life with the same family. He knew where he fit in, who his people were, and what it meant to be loved. His days were predictable, comfortable, and full of familiar faces.
Then life changed.
When the man Baxter loved was called back into military service and his family could no longer keep him, Baxter lost the only home he had ever known.
At 7 years old, that's a difficult thing to understand.
One day you have your favorite spot on the couch. The next, you're sleeping in a shelter wondering where everyone went.
Through it all, Baxter has remained exactly what he's always been, a good dog with a heart full of loyalty.
This handsome Border Collie/Retriever mix isn't searching for excitement. He's searching for a connection. The kind that lasts. The kind that feels like home.
Baxter is thoughtful, intelligent, and devoted. He can be a little cautious when meeting new people, but once he trusts you, he'll be right by your side through every adventure and every quiet moment. Whether you're heading out for a hike, working in the yard, or launching frisbees across an open field, Baxter is ready to suit up and join the team. In fact, this guy is a total athlete. Watching him chase a frisbee is like watching a seasoned pro take the field, focused, fast, and absolutely loving every second of it.
He previously lived successfully with another dog and would love a home where he has room to run, explore, and show off his impressive moves. A fenced yard would be a dream come true for this active, bright boy.
What breaks our hearts is knowing that Baxter isn't sitting in the shelter because he did anything wrong.
He's here because life happened.
And while the staff at Animal Ark care deeply for him, what Baxter truly needs is a family to call his own again.
A warm bed.
A familiar routine.
A hand reaching down to scratch behind his ears.
Someone who chooses him forever.
Baxter has already lost one home. Let's not make him wait any longer for the next one.
Meet Baxter at Animal Ark in Hastings, Minnesota.
Fill out an adoption application at animalarkmn.org and schedule a Meet & Greet.
Share his story and help him find the family he's been waiting for.

Animal Ark is a Minnesota-based animal welfare organization. We embrace and follow a no-kill philosophy in our work to rescue, rehabilitate, & rehome Minnesota’s lost and homeless companion animals.

This might not seem like much but it is a huge win.
Lucy is heading home today after two week Board n Train program here.
Last fall we approached this water and the little lady took off and jumped in. Well just because there’s a body of water doesn’t mean it’s calling your name. We finished strong good girl.

Lucy is asking if this counts ?

All part of the learning curve mistakes do happen even with professional trainers.
This is how we learn and establish the behaviors we want.
If you notice I didn’t overreact.
Leash was on for support as I advise my clients to do.
I simply picked up walked back rectified the situation and tried again She is developing strength in behaviors daily.
Go Lucy❤️🐾 it’s a do over situation

I know this is probably a longshot, but I’m going to try my best anyway.
Meet Buster, roughly a 10 year-old purebred Australian Shepherd, male exact birthdate coming soon.
He has been a farm dog his entire life.

Now it’s time for him to enjoy a well-deserved retirement, surrounded by love and comfort indoors.
He deserves a cozy dog bed to lay on, as we all know that as dogs age, especially on a farm, they need a little extra care.
We want to ensure Buster lives out his golden years in peace and happiness.

He does not belong to me. He belongs to a farmer friend of mine. I am trying to spread the word to find him the perfect forever home.
Since he’s never lived indoors, he may need a belly band initially, but with patience and love, he’ll thrive. He’s incredibly affectionate with people and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He’ll be your loyal companion and friend. His medical care will be updated, and although he’s mostly current, neutering may not be in his best interest at this stage.
Let’s allow him to live life to the fullest.

I’m here to help facilitate a smooth transition. I may bring him in for some rehabilitation and placement, but ideally, it would be wonderful for him to go directly to his new forever home. Any interest?
Please message me, and we can discuss further. He’s located on the western side of the state, and I’m happy to assist with travel arrangements and meet-and-greets.
