It is turtle crossing season! This time of year, female turtles are often found crossing roadways as they seek out a spot to lay their eggs.

Female turtles seek well-drained, sunlit soil to lay their eggs. Commonly, that leads them to the edge of roadways to lay (or at least needing to cross to find other locations).

Be sure to drive slowly and be vigilant! If you find a turtle crossing the road, help them in the direction in which they were headed. If you find a snapping turtle crossing the road, a towel or shirt can be used to cover their head while carefully carrying them across the road or you can ease them onto a car mat and pull that across the road! Do not drag turtles on pavement or pick them up by their tails!
