This special girl has been waiting far too long.

Little Red arrived at Petersburg Animal Care & Control as just a baby alongside her mama. Her mom was adopted long agoā€”but Little Red's been waiting over a year. She narrowly escaped a tragic outcome, and sheā€™s still smiling, still full of love, and still hoping for a home of her own.

Sheā€™s a volunteer favorite with a fan club of advocates cheering her on. Now sheā€™s heading into training, where sheā€™ll gain confidence, skills, and support for a successful transition into a home.

If youā€™ve been following her story but were unsure due to her long shelter stayā€”PLEASE reach out. This is her time. This is your chance to be her hero.

Petersburg Animal Welfare Society - PAWS is generously sponsoring her training and Furbish Thrift is generously sponsoring her spay, so there is no fee to adopt and she'll be ready to go home straight from here.

Stuart loves other dogs, but most dogs get uncomfortable around him and he is also easily overwhelmed by his own actions. Luna is one of the most tolerant dogs I've ever met and she's really been helping Stuart learn to turn it off. Today was the first time ever that Stuart disengaged from play and went to lie down without being prompted. šŸ„¹

Stu is not dog aggressive. His muzzle is on because he gets overstimulated from mouthy play and starts to spiral. He doesn't want to feel that way. The muzzle keeps him in a good headspace, makes Luna more comfortable, and allows him to learn how to play without using his mouth.

Got to hang out with Tommy and help introduce him to a new friend. Tommy remembers every bit of his training šŸ’•Chance and Tommy are both available for adoption through Henrico Humane Society!

Chance is a 75lb hound dog with the soul of a golden retrieverā€”friendly, goofy, and absolutely thrilled to meet anyone with a heartbeat. Heā€™s the kind of guy whoā€™d invite you to his BBQ and then let you take home the leftovers.

Tommy is a 55ish lb American Bulldog who happens to be deaf, but he doesnā€™t let that get him down. Heā€™s been through some tough stuff, so heā€™s looking for an adult-only home where he can feel safe and loved. Heā€™s low-key, super sweet, and totally down for naps in the shadeā€”unless thereā€™s a dog friend to play with, in which case itā€™s game on.

Watching these two hang out was a vibe: Chance did his usual meet-and-greet tour of every blade of grass, while Tommy went full drama mode and melted into the lawn like he had just run a marathon. Turns out, being this adorable takes serious effort.

You know those dogs who can turn your whole day around with just one look? Thatā€™s Cameron. This petite wiggle butt is pure sunshineā€”sweet, gentle, and so ready to break out of the shelter. Heā€™s just looking for a soft place to land and someone to finally see him as family.

Pain and discomfort can cause so many behavioral issues. Maple Bacon didn't want Luna anywhere near her and she went at her several times. Maple is all healed from her surgery and suddenly wants to make friends with Luna šŸ„° Now we have to build Luna's trust in the crazy little spud!
