Warmer weather brings more time outdoors, but it can also increase the risk of heat-related illness for pets. Unlike humans, dogs and cats are physically unable to sweat, relying on panting to cool them down. This can make it harder for them to stay comfortable in high temperatures.

A few simple changes to daily routines can help reduce risk and support your petโ€™s safety during the summer months.

Southview Veterinary Hospital will be closed July 3rd through July 5th in observance of Independence Day. We will reopen on Monday, July 6th.

As you prepare for the holiday weekend, don't forget to prepare your pets, too! ๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿพ The Fourth of July can be a stressful time for many of our furry loved ones due to fireworks and loud celebrations.

If your pet requires medication to help ease anxiety during the holiday, please call our office as soon as possible to have prescriptions filled before the holiday closure.

Wishing you and your pets a safe and happy Fourth of July! (Opie declined to be in our group pic so we had to do one of him separately!)โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

Collars can break and tags can fade, but a microchip can provide a permanent path back home.

June is National Microchipping Month, and while these tiny tags cannot track location, a battery-free microchip provides a unique ID that stays with your pet for life. This tamperproof safety net significantly raises the odds of a reunion if registry details stay current.

Just as regular checkups help us stay healthy, routine blood work is one of the most important ways to protect our senior pets.

Pets naturally hide signs of illness as a survival instinct, which means serious conditions like kidney disease, diabetes, and thyroid disorders can develop long before you notice symptoms at home. Annual or semi-annual blood work helps us detect these problems earlyโ€”often before permanent damage occurs.

Early detection means earlier treatment, better outcomes, and more quality time with the pets who have stood by our side through the years.

If your senior pet is due for a wellness exam, talk to us about blood work. It's one of the best gifts you can give them as they age gracefully. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ
