🍁 Happy Thanksgiving from Kovar K9! 🍁

As we take time to reflect on the things we’re most grateful for, our amazing clients are at the top of the list. To our board and train clients and lesson clients, thank you for trusting us with your beloved dogs. Your trust means the world, and it’s an honor to be part of your dog’s journey.

Each and every one of your dogs becomes part of the Kovar K9 family, and we are so thankful for the opportunity to work with them and watch them grow. This Thanksgiving, we’re reminded of how lucky we are to do what we love, surrounded by wonderful people and their incredible dogs.

Wishing you and your four-legged family members a day filled with joy, love, and maybe a few extra belly rubs. 🐾

Thank you for being part of the Kovar K9 family. Happy Thanksgiving!

🦃🍁 Thanksgiving Safety Tips for Your Dogs 🍁🦃

From everyone at Darlin’ Doggie Do’s and Kovar K9, we want your Thanksgiving to be safe and happy for your furry friends! Here are some important health and safety tips to keep in mind this holiday:

🐾 No Table Scraps, Please!
While it might be tempting to share your feast with your pup, many Thanksgiving foods can harm their health. Foods like turkey skin, gravy, stuffing, and desserts are high in fat and can lead to pancreatitis—a painful and potentially life-threatening condition.

🐾 Watch Out for Toxic Foods
Certain common ingredients in holiday meals are toxic to dogs, including:
• Onions & Garlic (found in stuffing and casseroles)
• Grapes & Raisins (hidden in desserts or stuffing)
• Chocolate & Artificial Sweeteners (like xylitol, found in sugar-free desserts)

🐾 Bones Are a No-Go
Turkey bones may splinter and cause choking or damage to your dog’s digestive tract. Always dispose of bones securely.

🐾 Limit the Rich Foods
Even a little taste of rich foods like mashed potatoes, butter, or heavy gravy can upset your dog’s stomach. Keep their treats simple and stick to their normal diet.

🐾 Provide a Safe Space
Thanksgiving can be overwhelming for some dogs with all the visitors and activity. Create a calm, quiet space where your dog can relax away from the hustle and bustle.

🐾 Safe Treat Alternatives
Want to include your dog in the holiday fun? Offer them:
• A Kong filled with plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling).
• Their favorite chew or toy to keep them occupied.
• A small amount of plain, cooked turkey (no skin, seasoning, or bones).

Keeping these tips in mind will help ensure your dog enjoys Thanksgiving safely and comfortably.

From all of us at Darlin’ Doggie Do’s and Kovar K9, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

“Bailey is crushing her 4-week on-leash obedience program! 🌟 Today, we’re tackling high-distraction training at a busy lawnmower shop, focusing on staying calm and engaged around people—especially when excitement is her biggest challenge. Great job, Bailey! 👏

Day 2 of loose leash heeling

Clicking & Rewarding for no tension in the leash (slip lead), and eye contact.

I’m luring her with her dinner. Yesterday I had the lure much lower to guide her into position and keep her attention. We immediately started training this around other people and dogs because even though she’s excitable towards them, I make myself more exciting.

If this were a reactive dog who barks or lunges at other dogs, I would begin training this with no distractions and continue to work at a distance until the threshold gets smaller before the dog reacts.

Anyhoo, I’m always working on eye contact and engagement. I simply pack their breakfast or dinner in my food pouch and wait for them to look up for me, and mark the behavior with a clicker or a yes immediately, followed by their food. Voila, better eye contact and their meals become more stimulating and less boring.

Of course, Bailey rocked it 🙂

Welcome Bailey 💕

Bailey joined us last night for our 4 week board and train program. Bailey is a young Jack Russell Terrier and oh man is she a terrier! She is sassy and spunky and she’s on a mission to fulfill all of her hearts desires, from bolting out of the door to eating goose p**p. She is super friendly with dogs and people alike. We can’t wait to shape her into a best behaved best friend ☺️

One of Juliette’s field trips! We proofed her obedience around a variety of distractions today. Horses, dogs, cats, guinea fowl, bunnies. She was wonderful as always and I’ll be sad for her to leave this weekend.
