Sharing important information below! Please refer only to accredited sources when researching any and all information regarding the New World screwworm in livestock or other.

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has issued temporary animal import requirements following a recent detection of New World screwworm in Texas.

There is currently no indication of an outbreak in Tennessee. This proactive order focuses on education, early detection and prevention to help protect animal health.

New World screwworm is a parasitic fly that can affect warm-blooded animals, especially through open wounds. Animal owners, producers, veterinarians and transporters are encouraged to monitor animals closely, especially wounds and areas around the nose, ears, eyes, mouth and genitalia.

Watch for drainage, discharge, bleeding, swelling, discomfort, lethargy, isolation or unusual odors.

Suspected cases must be reported to the Tennessee State Veterinarian’s Office within 24 hours at 615-837-5120 or [email protected].

🐾 Great Veterinary Care Starts Behind the Scenes 🐾

When people think about exceptional veterinary medicine, they often think about advanced treatments, skilled doctors, and compassionate care. While those things absolutely matter, there's something equally important happening behind the exam room doors:

Our team culture.

The best care happens when a group of people genuinely enjoy working together, communicate well, support one another, and share the same mission.

When our doctors, technicians, receptionists, assistants, and kennel staff are all on the same page, your pet benefits from:
✔️ Better communication
✔️ More attention to detail
✔️ Smoother visits and procedures
✔️ Stronger patient advocacy
✔️ A more positive experience for both pets and their people

We're proud to have a team that celebrates each other's successes, helps each other through challenges, and truly cares about one another. That sense of trust and teamwork doesn't stay in the break room—it shows up in every appointment, every phone call, and every patient we care for.

Because when a veterinary team feels supported, valued, and connected, they can focus on what matters most: Providing the best possible care for your beloved family members.

We are incredibly grateful for our team and the culture we've built together. It makes a difference every single day!

Give a shout-out to a veterinary team member who has made a difference for your pet in the comments! We'd love for them to hear what a difference they've made in your visit, care, lives etc.

🐾✨ LET'S PLAY A LITTLE GAME CALLED VET CLINIC “CONFESSION TIME” ✨🐾

We want to hear the *most ridiculous thing* your pet has ever stolen, destroyed, or tried to eat. 👀👇

We’re talking:
🐶 entire loaves of bread
🐱 hair ties at 3am
🐾 socks, homework, couch cushions, mystery backyard “snacks”…

We’ll go first:
One patient came in proudly after ingesting a rack of ribs, who can resist a DELICIOUS bbq dinner these days? See the photos.. ya- those are the pieces of ribs we pulled out (this particular dog is ok and had no complications after his little late afternoon treat)

Drop your pet’s “crime” in the comments — bonus points for photos! 📸

🏆 We’ll pick one favorite story/photo on Monday and send that pet a special surprise from our team!

POV: You pay the mortgage, buy the food, wash the sheets… and somehow the pet still thinks *you’re* the guest in *their* bed. 🐱🛏️👑

We’d love to know — how much space does your pet allow you to have at bedtime? 😂

🐾 “I get a corner”
🐾 “We basically share”
🐾 “I sleep hanging off the edge while they sprawl out like royalty”

🐷💗 Confession time… pigs are *not* our usual patients.
Dogs? Absolutely. Cats? Every day.
This pig named “Hattie” waddling through the front door? …That’s the kind of surprise that makes our whole team stop what we’re doing and just SMILE. 😂

We may not see pigs every day, but we LOVE them just the same. Big (or in this case, little) snoots, happy grunts, dramatic personalities — honestly, they’re basically toddlers in a mud suit. 🐽

So now we need to know…

👇 If you had a pet pig, what would you name it?
OR
📸 Drop a picture of your pig (or any “unusual” pet!) in the comments!

Bonus points for the funniest pig names. We’ll start:
• Kevin Bacon
• Hamlet
• Chris P. Bacon
• Piggie Smalls

🐾 Is your dog constantly scratching, licking, or chewing at their skin?
Itchy skin is one of the most common reasons pets visit the vet — and it’s often more than “just allergies.” Fleas, environmental allergies, food sensitivities, infections, and dry skin can all leave your pet uncomfortable.

Signs to watch for:
• Excessive scratching or licking
• Red or irritated skin
• Hair loss or hot spots
• Ear infections or head shaking
• Chewing at paws

The good news? Relief is possible. Our team can help identify the cause and create a treatment plan to keep your pet comfortable and happy again. 💙🐶

If your pet seems itchy, don’t wait for it to get worse — give us a call to schedule an exam. 865-977-6958 or use our online booking link on our website www.chilhoweevetclinic.com

Supporting your local animal shelter isn’t just a kind gesture—it directly fuels lifesaving work in your own community. 🐾

Every donation helps provide food, medical care, and a safe place for animals waiting for their forever homes. Shelters like County Animal Center rely on community support to keep their doors open and continue caring for pets in need.

From emergency veterinary treatment to daily enrichment and adoption programs, these organizations are on the front lines every single day. Your contribution—big or small—helps give animals a second chance at a healthy, happy life.

If you’ve been thinking about giving back, this is a meaningful place to start. Donations, supplies, and even sharing their mission all make a real difference. Everything we cannot use and more goes right to our Friends over on Currie Ave, and yours can too.

Let’s show up for the animals who depend on us. ❤️🐶🐱
