Can we all agree there's just something extra special about BIG dogs? 🐾❤️

Sure, they may take up the entire back seat... the whole couch... and somehow still believe they're lap dogs. 😂 But those giant paws, goofy smiles, and hearts that are somehow even bigger than their bodies make them impossible not to love.

This handsome gentleman Maxx, stopped by to remind us that while large breed dogs may be intimidating to some, they're often the biggest softies around. Whether they're leaning on you for hugs, drooling on your shoes, or proudly carrying around a toy that's way too small, they have a way of stealing hearts everywhere they go.

🐱 "She's just getting older..." Or is she hurting? 💙

Did you know that osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common causes of chronic pain in cats, especially as they age? The tricky part is that cats are masters at hiding discomfort, so the signs can be easy to miss.

Here are a few things to watch for:
🐾 Jumping onto furniture less often
🐾 Hesitating before climbing stairs
🐾 Sleeping more than usual
🐾 Not grooming as well (especially over the back or hips)
🐾 Changes in litter box habits
🐾 Becoming less playful or interacting less with the family
🐾 Acting grumpy or avoiding being touched

Sometimes the best therapy has four paws, and a very pretty backdrop. 🐾

After a long day, there's something special about watching the sunset with your best friend by your side. They don't worry about tomorrow's to-do list or yesterday's mistakes. They're simply happy to be with the people they love.

Our pets have a wonderful way of reminding us to pause, take a deep breath, and enjoy the moment—whether it's a walk through the grass, a game of fetch, or just sitting together as the sky turns shades of pink and purple.

🇺🇸 Holiday Hours Notice: We’ll Be Closed July 4th! 🐾

In observance of Independence Day, our clinic will be closed on Saturday July 4th so our team can celebrate with family, friends, and of course… pets! ❤️🤍💙

Fun fact: America turns 250 years old this year- that means our country has been around for 250 years of wagging tails, wet noses, and loyal companions.

Speaking of 250 years… did you know some dog breeds have been part of America’s story since the very beginning?
🐶 American Foxhounds were one of the first iconic American breeds and were even favored by George Washington, who helped develop the breed for fox hunting.
🐶 And while no pup has lived 250 years (we wish!), the oldest dog ever recorded was Bobi, who lived to an incredible 31 years old—that’s basically a canine national treasure!

As you celebrate, please remember:
🎆 Keep pets indoors during fireworks
🎆 Make sure collars/tags are up to date
🎆 Provide a safe, quiet space if your pet gets anxious

Everyone, meet Popeye. (yes we named a one eyed box turtle popeye because someone dropped it off in a box at our front door yesterday) So, now we feel like we should talk about them a little!!

🐢 Did You Know? Box Turtles Are Tiny Tanks With Big Personalities! 🐢

Meet the Box Turtle, Popeye (pictured below) — a fascinating reptile known for its dome-shaped shell and unique ability to completely close up like a box to protect itself from predators!

Here are a few fun facts about these amazing creatures:

🌿 They’re land dwellers
Unlike many turtles, box turtles spend most of their lives on land rather than in water. They love wooded areas, grassy fields, and places with plenty of hiding spots.

🎂 They can live a LONG time
With proper care, box turtles can live 30–50+ years, and some have even reached over 100 years old!

🍓 They’re not picky eaters
Box turtles are omnivores, meaning they eat both plants and animals. Their menu can include berries, mushrooms, insects, worms, and leafy greens.

🏡 They know their home turf
Box turtles have strong homing instincts and often stay within the same small territory for years. If moved far away, they may spend a lot of time trying to get back home.

☀️ They need proper UV light & warmth in captivity
Pet box turtles require specific temperatures, humidity, and UVB lighting to stay healthy and avoid shell or bone problems.

❤️ Important reminder:
If you find a box turtle crossing the road, help it cross **in the direction it was already heading**—but avoid relocating it far away. We were able to transport this guy to UT vet hospital for the medical care he needed on his injured eye, however he is not the typical case for us and none of our doctors see exotics; so please call UT or a wildlife rescue specific to that animal in our area for further instructions on how you can help the injured animal you've found; before dropping it off at our door.

We're glad we got this guy where he needed to be, but we'd prefer to see your furry 4 legged friends instead LOL

☀️🐾 Hot Weather = Heat Stroke Risk for Pets 🐾☀️

As temperatures rise, our furry friends can overheat **much faster than we do**— especially senior pets, flat-faced breeds, overweight pets, and those with thick coats.

🚨Signs of heat stroke in pets include:
• Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
• Heavy drooling
• Bright red or pale gums
• Lethargy or weakness
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Stumbling / loss of coordination
• Collapse or unresponsiveness

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If you notice these signs:
❄️ Move your pet to a cool area immediately
💧 Offer small amounts of water
🧊 Use cool (not ice-cold) water on paws, belly, and body
📞 Call us or any other veterinarian for help right away

Summer safety reminders:
🌳 Provide shade
💦 Keep fresh water available
🚶 Walk during cooler morning/evening hours
🚗 Never leave pets in a parked car — not even for a minute

Remember: if the pavement feels too hot for your hand after 5 seconds, it’s too hot for paws too! 🐶🐱
