63 years ago Laika became the first animal to orbit the Earth. She died in space; alone, in agony, and terrified.

She was a stray who was plucked from the streets of Moscow, selected for her small size and bright coat (that would show up nicely on film.)

She passed away five hours after she was thrust into orbit (although for over 40 years the truth was covered up and officials insisted she was alive for days after take-off.)

She died due to overheating. The satellite wasn’t sufficiently insulated from the sun’s rays, and she essentially cooked to death.

The Soviets admitted that they never planned for her to make a return trip, and knew she would perish in the experiment.

“Laika, the first animal to be launched into orbit, died from overheating and panic in the tiny spacecraft – all alone and in severe pain.”

“The more time passes, the more I’m sorry about it. We shouldn’t have done it.”

Remember Laika, and the millions of other animals needlessly used in experiments worldwide each year ❤️

April ✅ and ended with a broken fridge and a few other things. Yard needs work with all the rain we had and dogs!!! Now on to surgery and will resume in about a month. Let it stop raining!!! Today the suns out tomorrow rain 🤦‍♀️! Not fun for the 🐶 either!

Meet Pat!

It isn't often you see a chocolate brown cat!

Pat is about 9-months-old and a kind of shy guy. He came from a home with 24 other cats, so he was not socialized very well. He has gotten more friendly during his stay with us.

Given his history we think that Pat will be a good companion to another cat in the home. He will likely be too nervous to be with rambunctious dogs.

When shelter workers went to check on a new arrival to the Hillsborough County Animal Services they saw a heartbreaking sight. The pit bull mix named Larry Bird was so upset by the loud sounds of the other dogs barking that he had flipped his bed over and was hiding underneath it!

Larry Bird had been found abandoned and alone at a basketball court and now he was all alone in isolation at the shelter. But staff were praying that someone would help the friendly but frightened dog....And their prayers were answered.

Friends.. This information is very important to know.!!! When you see a dirty cat.. This is important information to know, why cats look dirty.

🔺 Cats can resist hunger for up to a week on average, but no more than 2-3 days in case of thirst.

🔺 Cats are usually very clean, they are groomed several times a day, if you see a cat that is not clean, it is DEHYDRATED and has been so for many days.

Their saliva glands are not functioning properly, because they require moisture.!!!.

🔺 Please, if you see a stray kitten, apparently dirty, do not run, or look at it with disgust, it has already had difficult days.. In which I probably haven't eaten or drank any water for a long time!!!. If you don't like cats, express kindness out of compassion.!!

🔺 For humanity, empathy, and love for your neighbor, bring food and above all a container with WATER. It's not easy being thirsty and hungry and not being able to say a word! 💔🥺
