🐾 Big News & New Beginnings! 🐾

Meet Riley and Princeton — the first two dogs to make it to Middleburg Humane Foundation from Berkeley County Animal Control. They are the start of what we hope will be many more lives saved through this new partnership. 💙

Like so many shelters across the country, Berkeley County Animal Control is overcrowded and short-staffed, with very limited resources. By law, dogs must have a health certificate before crossing state lines, and each one costs about $200. Unfortunately, they simply don’t have the funding to cover those costs — which is why we’ve been working to sponsor these certificates so dogs like Riley and Princeton can get their second chance.

If you’re able to help, please consider donating to support health certificates and transport so we can continue pulling dogs from an overcrowded shelter and giving them the opportunity they deserve. Every dollar truly helps save lives. 🐶❤️

Both Riley and Princeton will be available for adoption once they’ve completed all of their veterinary care and neuter surgeries. Princeton does have a fractured foot, so his recovery will take a little longer than Riley’s, but he’s in great hands and on the road to healing. 💙

🐾 Pupdate from Dixie! 🐾

Dixie, who was adopted in September, is doing great in her forever home! Her family decided to keep her “stage” name—and it suits her perfectly. 💁‍♀️✨

Dixie and her sibling Georgie have wasted no time making one thing very clear: they are absolutely in charge of the glorified Huntley kennel. 👑🐶

We love getting updates like this and seeing our alumni settling in, finding their confidence, and ruling their new kingdoms. Thanks so much for sharing, Dixie! 💙

🐾 Pawgress Report from Cotton Candy & Cream Puff! 🐾

Adopted back in May, this bonded pair has been absolutely thriving in their forever home! Formerly known as Cotton Candy and Cream Puff, they now go by Frida and Bogo (because he was the “get one” 😉).

They settled in almost immediately and have truly made themselves at home. Bogo can often be found living the good life—belly up and stretched out on a cozy rug over heated floors—while Frida prefers bird-watching, gazing wistfully out the window. Some things never change though… even before adoption, Bogo was already a fan of the belly-up pose!

Their family also shared a couple of pre-adoption photos so you can see just how much they’ve grown and blossomed since finding their home. 💕

After the heartbreaking loss of their 14-year-old cat in March, these two playful, loving “jokesters” helped heal some very tender hearts. We’re so grateful they found each other—and so thankful for updates like this that remind us how special the human-animal bond truly is.

Happy tails update! 🐾💙

Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings (now named Ace & Kuma) have officially settled into their new home—and they are absolutely thriving! These two are already living their best lives, exploring their new space, showing off their playful kitten energy, and soaking up all the love (and cuddles).

From zoomies to snuggle time, it’s clear they were meant to be together and are right where they belong. Seeing our adopters share updates like this is why we do what we do. Thank you for giving these sweet boys the happy ending they deserve! 😻

🐾 Pupdate from Onyx (now Simeon)! 🐾

We know there are good days and tough days—but if today happens to be one of the hard ones, just take a look at Simeon living his very best life on Christmas vacation 2025. 🎄✨

He was originally named Onyx, and after adoption his new name became Simeon. Simeon spent his entire life chained outside in Georgia until he was rescued by animal control and flown up to Virginia for a second chance. Now he’s soaking up the love, the adventures, and all the joy of being exactly where he was always meant to be.

Stories like his are the reason we keep going. 💙🐶

Ever thought about volunteering in your community and making a real difference? 🐾🚗

We’re looking for dependable, animal-loving volunteers to join our transPAWtation Team! This team helps get animals safely to and from our shelter on a regular basis—literally changing lives with every trip.

What’s involved:
🚙Transporting animals to and from locations including Staunton, Fairfax, Culpeper, Wi******er, Maryland, and Martinsburg, WV
🚐For larger transports, we provide a shelter van (must have a clean driving record)
🚗For smaller transports, you may use your personal vehicle
🐕Volunteers must be comfortable handling and loading animals at pickup and drop-off locations

If you enjoy driving, love animals, and want a meaningful way to give back, this could be the perfect volunteer role for you. 💙
