Next up from the personal collection: meet Chuck, our Ginrin Ki Utsuri, 20"+. He came to us as a rescue from the same abandoned pond as Sparrow, and this one really makes me happy. Yellow with a black zigzag, just like a certain round-headed kid shirt. Good grief, he is a handsome fish. 🫵🏻❤️🐟

Next up from the personal collection: our Shusui, 24"+. The Doitsu cousin of the Asagi, scaleless except for the row of dark scales along the back. From Marusei Koi Farm, and this one does not have a name yet. Got a name idea? Drop it in the comments. 🫵🏻❤️🐟

Next up from the personal collection: meet our Asagi, 24". He came to us as a rescue from an abandoned pond. My wife named him Sparrow. With one bad eye, the pirate name chose itself.

The Asagi story: the first koi variety ever developed. Traditionally a red belly all below the lateral line, with that blue-gray net pattern above it. 🫵🏻❤️🐟

Next up from the personal collection: meet Snowy, our white Purachina Ogon, 20"+. That clean metallic white with fukurin, the reticulated scale pattern that makes each scale stand out.

The Purachina story: the platinum Ogon goes back to the 1960s, bred from Kigoi and Nezu Ogon lines. 🫵🏻❤️🐟

First up from the personal collection: meet Wyatt, our Ginrin Ochiba, about 13" and one of our favorites. Purchased at only about 5". Snapped some pics as we moved the collection for the winter. Our option in defense against the upstate NY deep freeze and volatility.

The Ochiba story: the variety comes from crossing a brown Chagoi with a blue-gray Soragoi, and the name means "autumn leaves on the water", that gray-blue base with the bronze pattern drifting over it. The ginrin scales are what give Wyatt his sparkle.

First hard freeze of the season tonight — down to 31°. Feeding's winding down, leaves are netted off, and the aerator's ready for whatever ice shows up. Winter mode: on. 🫵🏻❤️🐟
