Frankenfurter & Halloweiner: More Scaredy-Cats Than Spooky Sweethearts!
These two little Halloween weirdos are still trying to figure out if the world is a safe place, and right now, they’re feeling pretty unsure about it.
Meet Frankenfurter and Halloweiner, two approximately 8-month-old pups who spent weeks surviving on the streets before coming to PUPS. With limited experience around people and the world beyond what they’ve known, these boys can find unfamiliar situations pretty scary.
When they’re frightened, they may react defensively toward other dogs, trying to create distance from something that feels threatening to them.
What these boys need most is a chance to feel safe.
They’re not ready for busy homes, lots of visitors, or introductions to a bunch of new friends.
They need patient, understanding fosters who can give them a quiet environment, predictable routines, and the space to settle in without pressure. Building trust will take time, and progress may come in tiny steps rather than big, dramatic breakthroughs.
A few things to know:
They’re approximately 8 months old and are still learning how to navigate life around people and other dogs.
They can show defensive fear reactivity when they feel scared or overwhelmed.
They’ll need slow, thoughtful introductions and careful management to help them feel secure.
They need to go to separate foster homes so each can focus on building confidence as an individual.
They need people who understand that fear-based behaviors take patience, consistency, and time to work through.
These boys aren’t looking for a Halloween party or a house full of new friends. They need a quiet landing spot where nobody expects them to be brave before they’re ready.
