Our pets are curious by nature — but that curiosity can quickly turn dangerous. Kaylah, an Emergency Veterinary Technician from MedVet Vancouver, advises how to keep your pets safe by watching out for common choking hazards, including:

⚠️ Small toys or toy pieces
⚠️ Bones (especially cooked ones!)
⚠️ Rawhide and other chews
⚠️ Household items like socks, hair ties, or bottle caps
⚠️ Fast eating — consider a slow feeder bowl

If your pet is coughing, pawing at their mouth, drooling excessively, or struggling to breathe, they may be choking and need immediate care. ⏱️

At 13 years old, sweet Holly the Yorkie was diagnosed with a large mass in her chest that was putting pressure on her lungs and even pushing her heart out of place.

To help her breathe easier and feel more comfortable, Holly underwent a special treatment called palliative radiation therapy that included a series of six treatments designed to shrink the tumor and relieve her symptoms.

Just two months after finishing her therapy at MedVet Columbus, Holly’s tumor has shrunk by 95%, and she’s doing great at home! 💪

We’re so proud of this resilient girl and grateful for the incredible teamwork that helped her feel better.

Our Veterinary Social Work team sheds light on disenfranchised grief, explaining why pet loss often falls into this category and how it can leave grieving pet owners feeling isolated. The Veterinary Social Work team at MedVet Columbus recently came together with our incredible hospital team for a cause close to all our hearts: supporting the Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center and their Community Pet Supply Pantry.

Thanks to generous donations and teamwork, we helped restock the pantry shelves and spent a special day volunteering alongside our Clinical Management team. From stuffing Kongs to sharing belly rubs, it was all about spreading love (and tail wags!) to dogs waiting for their forever homes.

A huge thank you to the Franklin County Dog Shelter for the amazing work they do for pets and people in central Ohio, and for welcoming us with such warmth. We’re honored to play a small part in supporting this vital resource for our community. 💙

Maggie and Meredith gave their families quite the scare, and both are lucky their pet parents acted fast!

Maggie thought underwear made a great snack, but thanks to her family’s quick thinking and our ER team at MedVet Vancouver, we were able to induce vomiting before it caused a dangerous obstruction or required surgery.

Meredith, one of our team member’s pups, snuck into 15 pounds of dog food and showed signs of bloat, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition. When her mom noticed something was off, she brought her into MedVet Vancouver right away, and we were able to treat her before things got worse.

Luckily, both pups went home the same day to recover. If your pet eats something they shouldn’t, don’t wait—fast action can help avoid major complications. 💙

Our MedVet Vancouver team had a blast connecting with local pet lovers at the Dogpaw Off-leash Parks Community Vendor Event!

We loved sharing how our emergency and specialty teams care for local pets and the people who love them. We handed out pup cups, gifted MedVet swag, and got to meet so many adorable dogs—some of who really knew how to work a pair of MedVet sunglasses. 😎

We also had the chance to reconnect with a few of our referral partners, Cascade Park Animal Hospital, East Padden Animal Hospital, and Dogwood Veterinary Dental.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello! We love being part of the Vancouver pet community. 💙

🦟 Keep the buzz away! As we enjoy the great outdoors with our pets, it’s important to keep our pets safe from mosquitoes.

These pesky insects can transmit heartworm disease, which can be harmful to our pets. Make sure to use veterinarian-approved repellents and keep up with regular heartworm prevention treatments.

Let’s keep our pets safe and healthy, so they can enjoy every outdoor adventure with us!
