While doing my duties at the cathouse one of my brothers from another mother showed up with a motherload of food, treats, and litter. An unexpected blessing and visit.

Noticed him paying attention and watching sisters Gidget and Bitsy as they snuggled while I was doing the nightly reading of scripture. Its really cool to see a career military man melt by all the furry cuteness. He served alot longer than I, and he fully gets our mission here at A Place for Benny. I am forever grateful, daily blown away by generosity and support of good people. The Lord blesses us daily.

To meet Gidget, Bitsy, and all their pals here at the cathouse reach out to us on our messenger.

Brothers Toby and Axl, have resided at the cathouse since they were kittens. Almost 5 years ago. They have watched thier siblings and many others get adopted into loving homes, yet they both remain. They are both super loving boys, never a problem outside maybe a little shyness around new people. It often breaks my heart that they haven't gotten thier chance at a home, even though I would so miss the special little things that have become our bond. If homes are not found, they will live thier lives full of love here at the cathouse, my hope and prayer is that they dont, but that it out of my control. These boys are definitely special, everyone wants kittens, but adult cats need and give alot of love too.

To meet these 2 special boys, or any of thier pals here at the cathouse reach out to us on our messenger.

No matter how rough life gets, how tired I am, how much pain I'm in, or how sick I am...I cannot quit. I dont have that right, failure is not an option.

Why did I just say that? This right here...Miracle, the shaky kitty, never ever quits. She struggles, she falls, she gets up and keeps going. She is a happy girl, who loves her life, and she loves us. She is my napping buddy, usually on my chest, she waits outside for me to come back from the cathouse every night and leads me from the gate to the house, she guards my bedroom door nightly. She is the Sarge. And if this little girl dont quit, who the hell would I be if I did. My little motivator.

When playing on couch, one has to be on guard to catch her...lol.

Last night, New Years eve got wild at the catmans home! Miracle the shaky kitty enjoyed some catnip, with the rest of the crew, had a little of the wife's vanilla ice cream ( which she absolutely loves) and passed out on my lap by 9 pm. We were all in bed by 1030. We really know how to walk on the wild side.

Happy New Years everyone!!

This, being the last day of 2025, we would like to state a few things learned.
The Marine Corps taught me years ago not to dwell on things, to focus on whats ahead. There are stories I will tell that I think we're humorous, some I will tell to those who have had similar experiences, and some I will take to the grave. But I tend to not spend much time there.
A Place for Benny residents have taught me similar lessons, as cats live absolutely in the moment. They learn from past experiences but live in the right now. I thank them for teaching me that and through them I was able to let past demons die and have no more power over my life. Tomorrow is not guaranteed so I focus all my energy in what needs attention in the here and now.
All that said, today we will ponder in the last years successes and failures, and seek the answers for a better today. This year we had lows, but we had some amazing highs as well. We were very blessed, had success in the cat tree building, (think we will do it again this year), met amazing people, had a few adoptions to great homes, and participated in some amazing rescues. Take Ace here, my rock star, who came to us in 2025 with a broken jaw, unable to eat, half starved, and knocking on deaths door. Today he is healed, pleasantly plump, and one happy boy. His jaw may be a bit crooked and he may drool a bit, but this guy is absolutely thriving. I played with him last night and he was so loving every moment of it. So yes, we have had such wonderful successes and we are ever so thankful, thankful to our wonderful Creator, thankful for all our helpers, and thankful for all our followers. The donations, love and prayers, and words of encouragement have made all the difference.

This Christmas was a different one, days before I lost my best bud of 13 years Maynard, and it took some of the wind outta my sails. But I have to say thank you to so many who sent cards, including one just for Maynard, made donations, volunteered time, and even stuffed all the stockings. It was a beautiful showing of love and support and we are forever grateful. The A Place for Benny family is large indeed. We are so blessed.

Bud here, is thankful as well.

Every night at the end of my night at the cathouse I read to them, then give out treats, turn down the lights and head home. I read scripture to them, one chapter per night, and have for some time as we are currently in Nehemiah. It always amazes me how quiet the cathouse gets when I sit to read. Here are a few pics of them in thier cozy spots listening.

As the temps drop tonight, make sure everyone is safe and warm.

Christmas at the cathouse!

Yesterday I got this photo of Bud watching out the window for Santa's helper, she showed up and filled the stockings, brought new scratchers, nip, and of course love. Our wonderful volunteer showed up after and played, cleaned, and passed out even more love. And this morning we passed out breakfast, emptied the stockings, and gave even more love. A Place for Benny is more than just I, it is a community, a wonderful community, we could not exist without it. This year we are so grateful and blessed by all those who follow, give of thier hard earned money in donations, give of thier time in visits, and give prayers. We are blessed by each and every one. Thank you.

From our family to yours, Merry Christmas!!

Here are some photos of the kids having a great time.

Oreo, who hopefully will be going to her furever home in a few days, offers healing to a broken heart last night.

What I'm about to say every single rescuer knows all to well, no matter how big or small thier rescue is, those who have saved 2 or 200.
Rescue is much like combat, for just like combat loss is gonna happen, and when you lose a brother in combat you cannot take the time to grieve...you have to push on, complete the mission, fight for those still standing. It may take years, or even a lifetime to learn to deal with the losses. Rescue is much in the same, for time to process the loss is not granted, there is much work to do, lives depending on me to be there, and to do it with love not grief.

All rescuers struggle with the anger, deep sadness, and guilt after a loss. And with Maynard, its no different. I feel angry that I wasn't with him in his final moments when he was always there for me. I feel the deep loss and find myself looking in his usual spots for him. I feel the guilt of the what ifs, blaming myself for not catching the issue earlier. These things I will feel, as all do, no matter the words from those hoping to help, no matter the looking at through common sense, but the end result is still the same. I will carry on, just like rescuers do, for its on to the next issue.

I do hope that when my time comes and I reach the walls of the Kingdom, that upon that wall is many faces peering over that wall waiting for me much like my ally cats do at 0630 every morning knowing that breakfast is coming...that is my hope.

So to all the rescuers out there I offer this prayer, may God bless you and give you as much peace as possible, for what you do is righteous indeed, for it is done in absolute love.

Today is a rough day. Today we had to say goodbye to my best buddy Maynard. We got Maynard ( Nard dog, Fatstack, Bubby) 13 years ago as a kitten from Petsdoc, and let me tell ya 13 years was not long enough. He was well loved and a huge part of our life. Maynard was before A Place for Benny and never wavered as we brought in new ones. He was the Bubby. He will be missed terribly and has left a huge hole in our hearts, but we are grateful for his life. Until I see you again buddy, much love.

Enjoy some of my favorite photos from our journey with Maynard.

who, what, and why...

taking care of, and rescuing abandoned or feral cats is an expensive venture, i created “a place for benny” to help with the cost of food, shelter, and vet care of the kitty’s in my care. for care i do, they are more than strays, more than “just cats”...each one is special, has something of value to offer, and they mean a hell of a lot to me. there must be a place for all the “benny’s” out there. this is just the start, will add more later once i figure out what i am doing. everything made will be made with care right here in madison indiana.

why name this a place for benny, and who is benny? benny is a feral cat born in the alley behind my house. i fed him and his siblings, built them shelters, and cared for them. i got benny and his sister joon fixed and thought i had found them a good home. sadly that was not the case. the people who took them were not truthful from the beginning and told me they had a barn, acreage, and would be a great place for them. after they left, maybe it was something said, maybe it was a gut feeling, but i felt something was wrong. over the next few weeks i asked for them back on numerous occasions and was told no and that the cats were fine, i offered cash and after i found out he was an avid hunter i offered a $700 rifle in trade, was still denied. desperate to quell the nagging feeling that something was wrong i contacted a friend who’s mother in law lived near the property where the cats were and i asked for permission to park there overnight while i did a midnight “raid” to get my cats back, while speaking to them they asked what my cats looked like. i showed them pictures and lo and behold there was joon, she had been living under my friends in laws porch for over 2 weeks. as i soon found out the people i gave them to, apparently did not live at the property (her parents place i guess) and the cats were released into a barn full of hunting dogs, so scared they took off. wouldve been ok if they told me, i would have come and got them. but they lied and kept telling me they were fine. so now, joon lives with me, has been through an ordeal but is a loving girl. i have been searching for benny now for a little over 3 months, have met some amazing people who have helped me look, allowed me to traipse through their property at all hours, and i will always be grateful for their kindness. there is and always will be a reward for his return and i will never give up on him, until i find him or find that he has a proper home. so i named this venture “a place for benny” in his honor, for there has to be a place for him.
