Instructors Mackenzie and Alex took their dogs out and about to play a little bit of dog parkour! Dog parkour is a wonderful way to enrich your walks (for both the dog and the human), build your dog's confidence, improve your relationship as a team, and tire your dog out even more! As an added bonus, this sport has an optional titling track through the International Dog Parkour Association that allows you and your dog to earn titles and ribbons, beginning at the novice level and all the way up to championship. Alex and his dog Violet earned their novice title on this outing!

If you're interested in joining in on the fun, we are offering a parkour class in a hybrid format beginning June 12th. In this class, you'll receive a lesson plan each Friday teaching you how to teach your dog the parkour basics. Then, on Saturday, come join us for an optional parkour walk around Madison! Class includes a dedicated Facebook group so you can share videos for instructor/classmate feedback throughout the week.

The first lesson plan will be provided on June 12th with the first walk being June 20th. We hope to see you there!

** Class is taught by a certified Parkour Instructor/Evaluator with the International Dog Parkour Association. **

Our dog’s noses are incredible!

Ever wondered why a dog suddenly stops and stares at absolutely nothing while you’re out on a walk? It turns out they are tuning into an invisible map of information that we simply cannot perceive. Understanding how animals detect scents helps us respect their perspective of the world.

1. Observe wind direction, because scent particles behave like invisible smoke moving through the air, traveling significantly further on a steady breeze.

2. Note the humidity levels, as moisture in the air actually traps and holds scent molecules longer, creating a stronger trail for animals like bears or wolves.

3. Look for physical signs of sniffing, such as a raised nose or rhythmic twitching, which indicate the animal is actively pulling in air to identify chemical signatures from miles away.

Learning to read these subtle cues transforms a simple hike into a fascinating lesson in biology. It is truly humbling to realize how much detail exists right under our noses that we just can't track.

Busy Dog is excited to be participating in the International Dog Parkour Association’s International Parkour Play Day 2026, happening this weekend!

If you’ve never tried dog parkour before, this is the perfect chance to check it out. Dog parkour is a fun way to build your dog’s confidence, body awareness, focus, and teamwork skills while exploring the world around you together. And with the warmer weather finally here, it’s the perfect season to get outside and adventure.

We’ve been out the last few weekends brushing up on our own parkour skills, and we’re ready to share the fun with you!

Join us on Saturday, May 9th at 12:00 p.m. for a free, informal Parkour Play Day walk in the Fitchburg area. We’ll explore a favorite local parkour spot, practice beginner-friendly skills, and learn how to safely introduce your dog to obstacles in the environment. Exact location details will be emailed after registration.

Your guide will be Mackenzie, certified instructor and evaluator with the International Dog Parkour Association, who will demonstrate some of the most common novice-level parkour behaviors, share training tips, and help you learn how to turn everyday surroundings into enrichment and adventure for your dog.

Love it and want to keep going? Our Hybrid Intro to Parkour class begins May 22nd! This class is perfect for teams who want to build skills more intentionally, work toward titles, and learn how to safely and creatively incorporate parkour into their everyday walks and adventures.

Register for our free Parkour Play Day walk or save your spot in our Intro to Parkour Hybrid class beginning May 22nd here: https://www.busydogtraining.com/in-person-classes/

"We have to remember what's important in life: friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn't matter, but work is third."

Set the "work" aside in Barks and Rec! This class is entirely play-based and is designed to challenge your dog's skills, as well as your teamwork, in new ways. If maintaining or strengthening skills like polite leash walking, recalls, attention work, stays, and more, feels boring or tedious, we have developed another way to create motivation. Through themed games, you'll build a stronger relationship with your dog, improve the "boring" foundations needed for a well-behaved companion, and have plenty of fun along the way!
