8 Weeks Ago, This Lake Dog Couldn't Put Weight on Her Leg🌊

This 6.5-year-old Lab is a true athlete who lives for the water and doubles as a hunting dog, so her legs work hard. Back in May she came to us with lameness and a torn right cruciate ligament. In June she returned for MMP surgery to repair it.

This video shows her 8-week recheck, and we could not be happier: Coco is doing great on that leg and is ready to start slowly reintroducing activity over the next four weeks. Cruciate injuries are one of the most common orthopedic problems we see in active dogs, and with surgery plus a patient, staged return to exercise, dogs like Coco get back to doing what they love.

🐾 Acupuncture and Dr. Stomack to the rescue!

Piper injured her back and was having a hard time walking. She started on pain medicine along with acupuncture, and she is doing so much better. 🙌

Acupuncture is one of the supportive options we can add for pain and mobility, always alongside medication and a plan built around that individual pet. Every patient responds differently, so it is something we talk through case by case.

🐾 Meet Marlee!

Marlee came to see us after a small cyst on her back leg ruptured. Our team shaved the area, gave her an antibiotic injection, and sent her home with antibiotics to finish clearing it up. She was a total sweetheart through the whole visit.

If your pet has a lump that suddenly opens up or looks irritated, it is worth having it checked so it can heal cleanly.

We are so glad Marlee is feeling better! 🐾

When playing ball goes wrong. ⚠️

It started like any other afternoon, until a German Shepherd came in with his tongue stuck inside his ball. He had been playing fetch, and his tongue slipped through the small hole in the middle and swelled too fast to pull back out.

Our team is always preapred. We looked for any way to free him, but there wasn't one, so we sedated him and carefully cut the ball off. When it fell away, his tongue was SO swollen.

We went to work with a sugar paste and a cold compress, and thankfully the swelling started coming down quickly. He is going to be just fine and went home that night. 💛

Here is your reminder: check your pet's toys. A ball with a single hole can catch a tongue in one second. Size up to a larger ball or choose a solid toy with no openings. If an emergency ever does happen, we're here for you seven days a week in southeast Michigan!
