When playing ball goes wrong. β οΈ
It started like any other afternoon, until a German Shepherd came in with his tongue stuck inside his ball. He had been playing fetch, and his tongue slipped through the small hole in the middle and swelled too fast to pull back out.
Our team is always preapred. We looked for any way to free him, but there wasn't one, so we sedated him and carefully cut the ball off. When it fell away, his tongue was SO swollen.
We went to work with a sugar paste and a cold compress, and thankfully the swelling started coming down quickly. He is going to be just fine and went home that night. π
Here is your reminder: check your pet's toys. A ball with a single hole can catch a tongue in one second. Size up to a larger ball or choose a solid toy with no openings. If an emergency ever does happen, we're here for you seven days a week in southeast Michigan!
