A rescue story that reminds us why we never give up.
Three weeks ago, a scared mama dog showed up at our shelter, but she wasn’t ready to trust us. Despite daily attempts, she continued to outsmart our staff and remained out of reach. When we realized she appeared pregnant, we knew time was critical.
Our Officers never gave up. After locating her den in a nearby ponding basin, three determined Officers climbed through thick, overgrown trees and brush to rescue her puppies before rain arrived. The puppies were safely placed in a crate while a plan was made to bring mama to safety. But this smart girl wasn’t falling for the trap that easily!
With teamwork, patience, hotdogs, and the help of our dedicated shelter staff, we finally did it! Mama was safely captured and reunited with her babies. Today this family is safe, warm, and cared for inside our shelter.
This is what dedication looks like. It’s muddy boots, scratched arms, long days, teamwork, and refusing to give up when an animal needs us most. Our Animal Services Officers and Shelter team go above and beyond because every life matters.
