Absolute Angel Dog Training

Absolute Angel Dog Training Absolute Angel Dog Training specializes in hands-on dog obedience training services around Lynchburg, Virginia. Nice To Meet You!

Let us help you achieve in having that well-mannered dog you’ve always envisioned. I’m Laura Pezzulo, Owner Of Absolute Angel Dog Training. 🐾

I discovered my passion for dog training during my career as a law enforcement officer. With years of experience assisting K-9 handlers, I learned a variety of techniques and tips that have allowed me to hone my dog training skills. I’ve proudly trained Lun

a, my German Shepherd, in search and rescue, working one-on-one with Jocelyn Stohl, a Vermont State Police Lieutenant (Ret.) and the Drone Program Manager with the New England K-9 Search and Rescue. In addition to Luna, my late Rottweiler mix Raja was trained and successfully passed the Canine Good Citizen test upon our first attempt. Her canine good citizen certification allowed us to visit schools and nursing homes on our own, where many of the people that we would encounter would refer to her as an “absolute angel.”

Absolute Angel Dog Training was born out of my passion to provide one-on-one dog training services in my community. It’s my mission to assist all dog owners residing in the Amherst and Lynchburg areas and beyond in relieving their frustration and anxiety of dog ownership through hands-on and in-person training. Through my business Absolute Angel Dog Training, I’m a strong advocate of least intrusive, minimally aversive (LIMA) training. I believe in providing professional dog training and education in a positive manner that will help bridge the owner/dog relationship. I also understand every dog and situation is different and will adjust training methods to best suit your needs when necessary. I’m proudly certified through the International School of Certified Dog Trainers, am a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, and a graduate of Dr. Ian Dunbar’s SIRIUS Dog Trainer Academy. No matter the issues you might be facing with your dog, the size of your dog, or the breed of your dog, I’m confident I will be able to help. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!

Senior dog owners — this one's for you. 🐾
At 14 years old, Scooter doesn't move like he used to. Transporting a large, older dog isn't as simple as it used to be. Between the joint pain, the limited mobility, and the worry about them slipping or getting hurt on a quick stop — it can feel stressful.

But that doesn't mean our adventures are over. 🐕❤️

If you have a senior dog, you know exactly what I mean. Every car ride feels a little more precious. And you want to make sure they're as safe and comfortable as possible for every single one.

I just posted a video showing the exact setup I use to transport Scooter. Here's a sneak peek of what I cover:
🔹 The cargo net setup that works better than a crate for senior dogs, IMO
🔹 A simple layering trick to give arthritic dogs better traction and joint support
🔹 The one seatbelt attachment every dog owner needs for rear-end collision protection
🔹 Stairs vs. ramp and why one may work better in tight spaces

If your dog is slowing down but you're not ready to stop adventuring together, this video is for you.

🐾 Building a Sensory Yard for Dogs — Can You Help? 🐾

What's a sensory yard, you ask? It's a safe, calming space for anxious dogs, seniors, and puppies to build confidence through scent work, tactile exploration, and mental stimulation.

I'm looking for donated or "discounted" materials rather than buy new — and I think one of you might have exactly what I need sitting in a garage or backyard!

So as you embark on your Spring cleaning, please keep this list in mind 😀 ("somewhat decent" condition, please):

• Old tires (any size)
• Kiddie pools
• Plastic balls for a ball pit
• Rubber stall mats or stable mats
• Yoga mats (worn/old is fine)
• Stepping stones or pavers
• Stumps (small)
• Pool noodles
• Old pots or planters
• Burlap sacks or fabric scraps
• Garden stones or pea gravel (partial bags welcome!)
• Sand (leftover sandbox sand is great)
• Herb plant cuttings — mint, rosemary, chamomile, basil
• Any garden décor with movement
• Outdoor mats/stall mats

From my fellow dog trainer friends 🤞:

• Platforms (Klimb, or the like)
• A-frame
• Agility tunnel

Everything will be cleaned, inspected, and repurposed into something that helps dogs in our community feel safe, calm, and confident. 🐕

If you have anything on this list, or something not listed that you think might work, please drop a comment, send me a message, or tag a friend who might have materials to spare!

Pickup available. Happy to share what I'm building when it's done. Thank you so much in advance! 🙏

Potty training...Raise your hand if you bring your puppy outside for 15 minutes, it does nothing, and then comes back inside and pees. 🙋‍♀️ Yep, we've all been there.

In this blog, I break down exactly why that happens and how to fix it. This simple step-by-step process is what I've taught hundreds of puppy owners, and it works!

Happy Easter from Absolute Angel Dog Training! 🐰🐾
Your dog would like you to know: the Easter basket is a shared experience. 😄
Unless there is chocolate.
In which case, that basket best be put away behind a locked door.

The elevated stand (or "paws up") is another way to work those hind legs and core. In this video, you also see me luring food side to side to help 14yo Scooter's range of motion in his neck area. This was his first time doing this exercise! 😀Has anyone ever done this exercise with their dog?

As dog's age, one of the first parts of the body that tend to weaken quickly are the hind legs. It's important to target the back end and core before it gets to be a problem and they can no longer stand up.

Here I am walking Scooter through Cavaletti poles which help with coordination, arthritis, among other things. It's also great to keep their ol' brains engaged!

Curious...Do any of you do any type of physical therapy for your senior dog?

My bittersweet walk...A few days ago, it was sunny and 70's. A nice break from the cold and dreary winter we've been having. I needed to be outside. Recharge the batteries.

I decided to go for a 2 mile walk around my neighborhood. A walk Scooter, my 14yo dog, can no longer physically handle. It was the first time in two decades that I did not have a dog by my side. It was an awful feeling.

I thought a lot about my dogs. How they touched my life in a very special and meaningful way. Years later, I still think about Niko, Luna, and Raja. I certainly don't want to imagine life without Scooter.

So while it was a gorgeous day to be outside, enjoy the mountain views, and see the outside world coming back to life, it was a bittersweet walk without my trusty companion(s) by my side.

Does this resonate with you? Do you find yourself thinking about the dogs in your life that are no longer by your side?
