Someday I’ll learn to keep my phone with me when I’m outside because I’m never in time to get the “cool” shots.
I was out walking the pups around the yard and we always check on the quails at the end of each loop (of the yard) when I heard a weird sounding chirp coming from the aviary that I’ve never heard before. I stood there for a minute to try and figure out which one was making this sound when I noticed there was a black racer (my favorite of all the snakes to see in my yard) creeping about 5’ up on the side of the aviary. Knowing there is absolutely no way the snake could sneak in since the entire aviary from top to below bottom is protected by 1/2” hardware cloth, I ran inside to grab the phone and of course it had given up and was already was down in the garden bed by the time i got back.

I guess the sound I heard was an “Alert Chirp”. The quails were back to sand bathing and weren’t at all stressed, even when Kobe decided to check in with them.

What to do with all these quail eggs? Well 170 of them when into these egg frittatas over the weekend. One batch for the puppies and one batch (with all the good stuff) for me!

So glad i spent the day cleaning out the 8’x4’ pen, putting in fresh soil, mulch and sand so that the growouts weren’t all crammed in the brooder any longer 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

I have at least 7 - 6 week old hens still available from my last batch (and lots of roo’s of course) that I’m offering to my page followers first before advertising elsewhere. Must be able to pick up between now and Sunday. These ladies will begin laying within the next couple of weeks!

I met the friendliest gopher tortoise ever yesterday as he/she made their way through my backyard. ZERO fear in this little guy as my curious dogs surrounded it to grab a sniff as he continued on his way, stopping only to enjoy an old dog snack 💩 along it’s path. I ended up herding it into a bucket so I could safely es**rt it to the other side of my fence to the front yard.
