I am so surprised at the attention my post regarding the New York City carriage Horses has gotten. I guess there must be some kind of algorithm where so many people have decided to jump on the thread to defend the industry, make comments that they are completely uneducated about and make false statements. 
👉🏼Here is my stance:
I am not suggesting that all carriage horse jobs are bad. While I do disagree with a lot of disciplines in the horse world industry, (I do believe some of them are too excessive and some of them are too abusive) my stance about the New York City carriage Horses is they work excessively long hours in inhumane conditions a lot of the time. And if that wasn't bad enough, it's the conditions that they go home to at night. If these horses went back to a farm every day and got turn out and got to stretch their legs and got to roll and lay down in comfort, that would be a different scenario. But these horses don't have that lifestyle. They go back to buildings where they have to go up a steep ramp only to be returned to a cramped stall, imagine that life for a moment. And then defend it. And to put peoples minds at rest, this has been a long time coming, do you really think that the people who fought so hard to end this industry didn't have a plan for these horses if they won? Do you think they just worked so hard for so many years to abolish this industry only to see the Horses go to Slaughter? Come on people. There is a coalition that I am so proud to be a part of where so many sanctuaries have stepped up to take the horses, they're probably aren't even enough horses as there are homes willing to take them in. 
It's a good step in the right direction. There are replacements for New York City that would be just as charming, Electric carriages, I would love to see the owners of these horses perhaps step into that role.
👉🏼And there was one comment on the thread that made me laugh. Yes the carriage drivers own these horses, but I'm sure once they're not earning the money they're not gonna be supporting them anymore. Maybe a handful of them will retire their horses with dignity and send them to a farm and pay for the rest of their life for them to live in comfort. because wouldn't you think they owe them that? Wouldn't you think that those Horses who worked tirelessly every day to support these people and their families have earned that? But I highly doubt that. You see, when horses are a commodity to someone, they're less likely to want to support that horse for the rest of its life once its usefulness is gone. And Horses sometimes live well into their 30s and even 40s.
