For decades, these magnificent animals were forced into dangerous, traumatic events—suffering torn ligaments, shattered bones, and lasting psychological damage—all for a crowd's applause. Animal welfare advocates called it what it was: cruelty.

But persistence pays off. Years of evidence, campaigns, and public outcry finally moved lawmakers to act. This law proves that when citizens demand better, change happens. 💪

Sometimes people need to hear the blunt and honest reality of rescue, so we apologize in advance for this post.

If you feed an animal, please ensure it is spayed or neutered. If your pets are not fixed, it is no longer an “accident.” Rescue groups and shelters cannot continue carrying the weight of irresponsible ownership alone.

When someone contacts us asking for help with a momma dog and puppies, we immediately jump into action because that is what we do. But when we spend hours arranging fosters, transport, vetting, and supplies, only to suddenly be told they changed their mind and are keeping the animals, that time was taken away from other animals that truly needed us.

Please also understand that withholding information or not being honest about an animal’s history sets both the rescue and the animal up for failure.

If you have not read the new Ohio laws regarding pet ownership and rescue, you need to. Rescues and shelters are already asked to do the impossible every single day. Now we are expected to do it blindfolded, with our hands tied behind our backs.

By the end of this week, Myles Ahead will have over 100 kittens in foster care. We are turning away far more animals than we are able to take in simply because we do not have enough space, fosters, or resources.

If we divided the hours we work into any kind of hourly wage, it would not even equal a dollar — and every single one of us volunteers our time. Holidays do not exist in rescue. Days off do not exist in rescue. Sleep is often limited. Heartbreak is guaranteed.

And despite what many believe, adoption fees rarely cover the true cost of care. Veterinary bills, formula, food, medications, supplies, and emergency care continue to rise while rescues everywhere are drowning.

We are tired. We are overwhelmed. But we continue because the animals need us.

Please spay and neuter.
Please be responsible.
Please understand that rescues cannot fix this crisis alone.

Nobody doing TNR has extra time laying around.

😪The people trapping after work?
Tired.

😪The people setting alarms every 45 minutes to check traps?
Tired.

😪The people driving before sunrise to clinics?
Tired.

😪The people answering messages while cooking dinner, raising kids, working jobs, and barely holding their own life together?
Tired.

𝗡𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.
People just decide something matters enough to make room for it anyway.

That’s the part we wish more people understood.
𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲?
𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.

❗️Somebody rearranged their schedule.
❗️Lost sleep.
❗️Spent money.
❗️Sweated their ass off in the heat.
❗️Learned how to trap.
❗️Drove across counties.
❗️Was frustrated.
❗️Overwhelmed.
❗️Burnt out.
…𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽.

Because once you truly SEE the problem, it becomes really hard to ignore it.

This work is not built on people with unlimited time, money, or energy.

It’s built on ordinary people deciding:
“Someone needs to do something… so I guess it’s gonna be me.”

And honestly?
That mindset is the only reason any of this works at all.

The people making a difference in this community are not super human.

They’re exhausted, ordinary people who decided these “unowned” cats still mattered anyway.
