Can you spot it? This is a dirofilaria worm from a heartworm positive sample. Heartworms are worms that can live in the heart muscle and cause serious damage. This is why we recommend monthly treatment for heartworm disease. If you're not sure if you pet is protected, please give us a call.

Rattlesnake bites don’t always look this dramatic at first.

In New Mexico, even a curious sniff can turn into a medical emergency very quickly. As temperatures rise, rattlesnake encounters become more common on trails, near rocks, and in tall brush.

We are happy to report that Malek is healing well and quickly returning to his normal self after receiving life-saving care at Roadrunner.

If you suspect your pet has been bitten:

• Keep them as calm and quiet as possible
• Do not apply ice or a tourniquet
• Do not attempt to suck out venom
• Seek veterinary care immediately

The sooner treatment begins, the better the outcome tends to be.

Roadrunner is open 24/7/365 for you and your pets when you need us most.

Can you see those tiny spines in the x ray? Dr. Warrick took great care with this scheduled c-section and the three puppies and their mom are doing great. Bella was also spayed during the procedure to prevent any further surprise litters.

Sometimes our favorite friends eat things that they should not. Who knew that a rock could be so enticing? Poor Finn was so painful in his stomach and could not keep anything down. His treatment plan included x-rays, which sure enough showed a big rock in his intestines. The rock was removed through gastrointestinal surgery and after a few weeks of recovery, he was back to being a playful pup.

🐣 Easter Reminder for Pet Owners: Chocolate & Dogs Don’t Mix!

With Easter just around the corner, many homes are filled with delicious treats like chocolate eggs and bunnies. While these are fun for us, they can be very dangerous for dogs! ⚠️

• Keep Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies, and candy well out of reach of dogs.
• Remind children not to share their treats with pets
• Check gardens carefully for any missed hidden chocolate if you’re hosting an Easter egg hunt.

Chocolate has chemicals dogs can’t process. Those chemicals build up and will overstimulate their heart and nervous system, which may cause vomiting, diarrhea, shaking, a racing heart, seizures, and in severe cases, death.
⚠️ If your dog eats chocolate, contact your veterinarian immediately. The sooner treatment begins, the better the outcome.⚠️
Let’s keep Easter sweet for everyone—including our furry friends! 🐶💛
