LBHA Loomis Basin Horsemen's Assoc. The Loomis Basin Horsemen’s Association LBHA founded in 1984 is a non-profit 501 (C) 3 dedicated to the trails and preservation of the rural lifestyle.

The Loomis Basin Horsemen's Association was formed in 1984 after developers wanted to cut off trials leading to the Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. The Loomis Basin has access to some of the best riding and hiking trails in the area. Petitions were sent out and over 400 signatures were returned requesting that the trails not be blocked. A meeting was held at which over 200 interested horsemen a

nd hikers attended. It was decided that an organized group was required to keep trails open and find a location to build an arena where riders, young and old could safely work their horses. By late 1985, the arena was build, with the help of many volunteers. The arena has seen rodeos, horse shows, team penning and any other horse event you can think of. Many local horse groups as well as 4-H groups use the arena throughout the year. Individuals use the arena daily when events are not being held. Use of the Arena is free to the public for individual use. Group use required proof of insurance and a small use and clean up fee. Trainers may utilize the arena by permit for lessons or clinics with proof of insurance.

⚠️The parking lot is being resurfaced Mon 8/17- Fri 8/21 and people will be parking in the overflow dirt area.

🚘 Please be mindful of cars when parking or avoid the arena if you do not have a key to park behind the red gate.

🔑 If you have a key, please USE IT and close the red gate behind you. (Don’t have to lock it until you leave).

🔐 If you do not have a key, but see someone parking behind the red gate, go ahead and park there also. Last person out LOCKS the gate.

We just learned of this and would’ve given more notice.

Thank you to Susan Smyth for joining us and giving such a great presentation on Ride and Tie and Equathon!

The history of these sports was fascinating, especially learning about Ride and Tie’s connection to the Levi Strauss & Co. company. But what really stood out to me was just how many different ways people can participate.

You can be a runner, a rider, switch back and forth with a teammate, or go all out and race competitively. Susan’s photos really brought it to life and showed the incredible variety of people who participate, from young competitors to those who have been doing it for decades.

I came away really impressed by how these sports bring together horses, people, families, and different generations. There really seems to be a place for just about everyone.

Thank you, Susan, for sharing your experience and enthusiasm with LBHA!
