Why TNR? This is why.

This is not an adult cat, that lived a full, long, healthy life.

There will always be cats that do not live in a home. That do not have a fluffy bed to sleep in. That do not have gourmet wet food.

And THOSE THINGS are okay. In most cases, these cats, once TNR'd, are NOT suffering.

However, there are different levels of suffering and the frustration that different rescues, shelters, volunteers, and caring people go through just to try to make a difference.

The ones that suffer - that we need to keep at the front of our minds? The cats. Period. Really, that's what matters.

However, for those of us that do this - and aren't paid for it - hitting brick walls, resistance, lack of resources, missing pieces of information, coordination (or lack there of) - it's exhausting.

Mind you - we're not saying that it isn't rewarding. We still do the high-fives. We still celebrate with a Bahama Mama (or two) when we hit containment, or the conclusion of an event. We share the tears of gratefulness, gratitude and the aMEOWzing partnerships that have been developed.

Those of us that ARE close, we have bad days. We get mad. We say things that are heard in a different way than we feel. BUT, that doesn't mean that what is said should be invalidated. We may need to take a moment - but the most important thing is that we talk. That we respond to each other. That we say "OUCH! That hurt!" Or, simply - "chill out, I hear that you're pi**ed, I'm ready to listen".

Two years ago, a wild dream began to grow. It was always there, but it started to grow. Cats may meow. They may yowl. They may growl. They may be skeptical of our intentions (they should be!). But - today, we're changing lives. We're doing it with partners and people that have the same end result in mind.

How we get there may look different. We all play a different part.

The long story short is that this image - this skull - says everything about why we must seek relationships (even if we don't like the humans) that have the same end goal. The Purrpose isn't the quietest organization around. To be honest, our Head Meow is relatively bossy and has a foul odor in her attitude when something isn't resolved and continues to be diminished. That in mind, it's not about power. It's not about money.

It's About the Cats.

There is a lot of work to be done. We will make a sanctuary happen. We will continue to TNR. We will continue to spay and neuter. We will continue to provide microchips in a different way than our communities have ever seen. We may even go so far as to publish a blueprint for low/no cost microchip clinics! The more organizations that do this, the more animals we help! XOXO

In a time that has too many kittens, too many cats that are victims of cruelty, untimely (and usually horrible) deaths, shelters and rescues at capacity - we need to have this conversation.

It can be tough, uncomfortable, awkward, disheartening and just outright hard. BUT...we will have it. Every time.

As much as TNR and spaying and neutering is the solution, and there are an abundance of hashtags for both - there is a greater part of this that needs to become a part of our reality. As humans, we created the problem.

I - Amy - your Head Meow - am willing to have this conversation with anyone that would like to have a constructive dialog about spay/abort. If you don't want to talk about it? Please read. Those of us in TNR and shelter management wish that it wasn't a hard or difficult conversation. If you don't want to talk about it - that's okay. Please understand, however, that we dream of a time when we don't have to talk about it either.
