No good deed goes unpunished. Dog was returned to its owner, we did have AC get involved and now she’s mad🤦‍♀️ and blasting us. Her BLIND AND DEAF dog is kept outside, she has obviously not gotten her the care she needed and also keeps her outside which is how she found herself near a busy road in a ditch. But she’s mad at us, for getting her safely out of the road and the care she desperately needed. Wow! And not one penny was donated for her care.

This Easter, we’re reminded of a gentle and often overlooked creature that holds a special place not just in the barn—but in the Easter story itself.

Have you ever noticed the cross-shaped marking on the back of a donkey? Legend tells a beautiful tale of how that cross came to be…

At Red Bell Run, we see these quiet, soulful animals not only as symbols of compassion but as living reminders of the power of gentleness in a world that needs more of it. This Easter, we honor all of our rescue equines, especially the donkeys who carry ancient stories on their backs and endless wisdom in their eyes.

If your horse is unsound, aged, or no longer has a good quality of life and you cannot keep them, the kindest, most responsible thing you can do is euthanize them...not give them away to a stranger who “promises” a good home. Euthanize.

The people who pick up these horses, whether through a giveaway post, a sale ad, or a word-of-mouth favor, don’t love your horse. They don’t know them. They have no emotional history. No context for their quirks, their limits, or their medical needs. That bond you’ve built over the years? The memories, the care, the promises? That dies the second you hand over the lead rope.

From that moment on, your horse is just another mouth to feed. Another vet bill. Another project. And when they get inconvenient: when they can’t be ridden, when the arthritis flares, when the hooves need special care or when the meds cost too much, there is no reason for that new person to keep trying. They don’t owe your horse anything. And that’s the root of the problem.

Too many horses, good horses, kind horses, horses who were once someone’s heart, get passed down the line until they land in a place no horse should ever know. Auction pens. Kill buyers. Backyard neglect. Starvation. Loneliness. Confusion. Pain.

And do you know what I hear every time? "We had a contract." “I thought she went to a good home.” “They promised they’d keep him.” “They said they had a pasture for her to live out her days.”

If you truly love your horse: if they stood steady while you learned, were a shoulder to cry on, nickered when they heard your footsteps, and showed up for you on their best and worst days, you owe them more than hope and a handshake.

You owe them peace. You owe them safety. You owe them a dignified end that is pain-free and fear-free, before the bad days outnumber the good.

And this responsibility doesn’t only apply to the horses who’ve been your partners for years. Even if it’s a horse you’ve just purchased, they still deserve the same compassion. A horse doesn’t need to have earned your love to be worthy of a gentle ending.

All horses deserve that kindness, that dignity, and that final act of selfless care.

It’s not selfish to make the decision to euthanize. It’s not “giving up.” It’s doing what people who truly care about horses do: taking responsibility. You stay with them. You look them in the eye. And you make sure they never have to wonder why the person they trusted walked away when things got hard. Let them go with love, before the world gets to them.

Guess what today is?! It’s our big red boy Hasty Red’s birthday! He is 22 today! And thank God hes still with us after the scare he gave us last week!

He is an OTTB that was severely abused on and in his early days off the track. When we first met Hasty at the rescue we volunteered at, he would tremble in fear in his stall just waiting to be hit. We watched him transform into the calm, peaceful horse he is today. He went through many riders at the rescue and had a few close adoptions, but Hasty never could completely trust anyone. Until finally Kaitlyn was given full rein to work with him. She poured her heart into that boy and in return he gave her his. Hasty had found his girl. Before we left FL she was given Hasty by the rescue and he is our namesake and the reason we do what we do. It took Hasty years to heal and now he has his forever with us. We are forever grateful for him.
When it comes to the horses that come through our gates, they are given all the time they need to heal. There’s no timeline, they heal on their time. They each have a story and even though they cannot speak, they tell us and we listen❤️
🌷For Hasty’s birthday and for all the future and current horses that need us, please consider a small donation in his honor!
❤️🎉Happy birthday buddy🎉❤️

Healing happens here. Thank you all for being a part of their journey❤️ All donations are tax deductible and we are dependent on private donations.

Our dream is a reality

As a family we have been working with rescues for almost 10 years, tirelessly devoting our time and resources to save these precious lives. A year and a half ago we moved from S. Florida and bought a small farm in SC for our children, rescued OTTB’s, and various other rescued critters. With the encouragement of close friends we filed for and received our 501c3 status March 2020. Our beloved Hasty Red is our inspiration for saving these precious souls. We met him at the rescue in Florida we volunteered at for many years. Hasty was a horrible abuse case and with the help of many he was removed from his terrible situation and landed at the rescue in Florida where our daughter fell in love with him. Hasty’s gentle spirit touches everyone that meets him.

Nurse mare foals are the most delicate of our rescues. Last year we helped 15 precious babies to safety and new homes! These young babies are unfortunately a by-product of one of the worst practices in the equine industry in which infant foals are taken away from their mothers so that the lactating mare can be used to nurse another foal of higher breeding. These babies are orphaned often days after being born and would be left to pass on without the assistance of rescues like Hasty’s Haven.

Hasty’s Haven is dedicated to saving the lives of horses. yearling and foals that were bound for slaughter, victims of starvation, neglect, abandonment and abuse. To date, Hasty's Haven Inc. has helped many Nurse Mare Foals as well as adult horses using our own funds and small donations from friends.

We are so grateful for our friends and supporters that have helped. Saving these lives is not possible with out you! Visit our website, follow our journey, every life is precious and together we can make a difference.
