Ashley’s K9 Training is looking for a dependable, compassionate, and detail-oriented Kennel Tech to join our team! 🐾

Location: Bertram, TX
Part-Time
Pay: based on experience
Morning and evening shifts available

Responsibilities:
-Greet clients with warmth & professionalism
-Feeding, watering, and cleaning up after dogs
-Exercise dogs and supervising group play
-Clean kennels, runs, and play yards
-Helping with training sessions (as needed)
-General upkeep (sweeping, laundry, etc.)

💛MUST be dependable, punctual, and comfortable working with dogs of all sizes

Tippy recently joined her family after being adopted through a rescue and like many rescue dogs she’s still learning how to navigate the world around her.

One of the biggest misconceptions about rescue dogs is that if they need training, have behavioral challenges, or struggle with certain situations they’re somehow “bad” dogs. They’re not.

Many rescue dogs simply haven’t had the same opportunities, structure, guidance, or experiences as other dogs. Some have experienced neglect, inconsistent training, frequent changes, or just a lack of clear communication. That doesn’t make them bad dogs. It makes them dogs who need patience, understanding, and someone willing to help them learn.

Some of the most incredible dogs I’ve ever trained have been rescues. With the right training, structure, and support, they often exceed every expectation placed on them.

We’re excited to help Tippy build confidence, learn new skills, and continue settling into her new life with her family.

🔥 Marshall 🔥

Marshall is a 3 year old Blue Heeler. He is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. His former owners love him, but ultimately realized their lifestyle wasn’t the right fit for his needs.

Marshall is an incredibly smart, loyal, and affectionate boy with his people. Once he bonds with you, he is the kind of dog that will truly be your sidekick. He thrives on having a job, clear structure, and consistent expectations.

Marshall is a true herding breed, and we want to be very upfront about what that means. He does have a history of nipping and struggles with reactivity, which will require lifelong awareness and management. At times he can be defiant and push back on boundaries, this may show up as nipping/lunging when he’s frustrated or trying to control movement.

That said, these behaviors were unintentionally reinforced in his previous home for some time, so it will take consistency, structure, and patience for him to unlearn them. The good news is he has made great progress in training and is continuing to improve with time.

Marshall will do best in:
• An adult-only home (no children)
• A structured environment with clear rules and boundaries
• A home experienced with herding or working breeds
• A home without male dogs (he may be compatible with the right female dog)o

Marshall has a strong training foundation. He knows obedience, has good manners, and is off-leash trained. He is currently continuing to work on socialization and neutrality around distractions and triggers while he’s with us.

Marshall isn’t for everyone but for the right person, he is going to be an incredible companion. If you’re looking for a loyal, driven dog and can provide the structure and lifestyle he needs, Marshall may be your perfect match.

One thing I wish more people understood about young Service Dog prospects is that puppies are still puppies even when they’re incredibly smart, driven, or naturally talented.

Dogs under a year old are still developing mentally, emotionally, physically, and environmentally. A lot of people unintentionally put too much pressure on young prospects too early because they see polished adult service dogs online and expect their puppy to perform at that same level immediately.

But early service dog training should focus far more on foundations than perfection.

Confidence building.
Neutrality.
Environmental stability.
Impulse control.
Emotional regulation.
Engagement with the handler.
Recovery from stress.
Learning how to settle calmly in stimulating environments.

Those skills matter just as much if not more than advanced obedience or task work in the beginning stages. A young prospect struggling with distractions, excitement, frustration, or occasional overwhelm does not automatically mean they’re failing. Many puppies simply need maturity, structure, consistency, and appropriately paced exposure to the world around them.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is rushing public access too heavily or expecting puppies to work like finished adult dogs before they’re mentally ready. The goal should never be to create a shut down robot. The goal is to build a confident, adaptable dog that genuinely enjoys working and can navigate the world calmly and successfully long term.

Meet Sadie 🤍

Sadie came to us from The Dogslanding House, an incredible nonprofit rescue in South Austin and her story is one that’s hard to put into words.

She was severely abused by a previous trainer/owner and was rescued in heartbreaking condition… extremely malnourished and underweight.

And yet, despite everything she’s been through she is the sweetest girl. Dogs like Sadie are exactly why we do what we do.

We’ve donated one of our training programs to her, and over the next couple of weeks she’ll be staying with us while we evaluate her, build her confidence, and help her start fresh. Our goal isn’t just to place her we want to truly understand her so we can find her the right home.

We are urgently looking for a foster or adopter who would be able to take her in about 3 weeks.

Whoever fosters or adopts Sadie will also receive free follow up training with us so we can continue building on everything she’s learned and help set both her and her new home up for long term success.
