Happy retirement to our very 1st K9 placed at Texas A&M PD thanks to K9s4Cops.org! You'll be greatly missed!
Texas A&M Police K-9 Mays retired from the force in January after six years on the job.
K-9 Mays, an 8-year-old German Wirehaired Pointer, joined the department in 2019, partnering with his handler, Officer Cody Clemens, Aggie Class of 2000.
K-9 Mays was bred in Europe for traits that are favorable to detecting explosives. K-9 Mays passed the National Odor Recognition Test to earn certification from the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives. K-9 Mays also maintained certifications in tracking persons and was trained in article recovery.
K-9 Mays dedicated his life to serving the Texas A&M community and other law enforcement agencies. K-9 Mays always loved meeting new people and regularly attended National Night Out, new student conferences, coffee with a cop, and demonstrations for local elementary schools and a variety of classes on the Texas A&M University Campus. During his career, K-9 Mays provided explosive sweeps in support of Texas Aggie sporting events, graduations, concerts, dignitary visits, and the World Series in Houston. Mays provided numerous explosive sweeps and article recovery sweeps when called to local schools and businesses within Brazos County and regional law enforcement agencies. K-9 Mays will enjoy his retirement living with his handler Officer Cody Clemens.
Texas A&M University Police Chief J. Michael Johnson stated, “It is with great pride and gratitude that we honor K9 Mays’ retirement. His unwavering loyalty has served our department and strengthened the bond between law enforcement and our community. I am grateful for K9 Mays’ service to the Texas A&M community and for making Aggieland safer.”
K-9 Mays was generously provided to the department by the Texas A&M University Mays Business School Strategic Philanthropy Class through K9s.org (formerly K9s4COPs) and K9s4KIDs.
