Basic hygiene you should be doing for your dog more!

1. Trim their nails monthly - This will maintain their length. For shorter nails, do more often. Dremel to get a smooth rounded shape and to get closer to the quick, coaxing it to recede.
2. Clean their ears weekly - dog ear cleaning solition and cottonballs will get the job done.
3. Brush their teeth daily - or at least have an additive for their water and dental bones.
4. Line brush often - check your work with a metal comb.

Can you Help Buddy with his medical expenses? Many of my doodle client’s have Buddy’s babies. He is such a good boy and has sired so many adorable dogs. You are welcome to drop donations off at FurryPaws Grooming.

Here is what Mom has to say: Buddy is a Standard Poodle who joined our family at just 8 weeks old, after being purchased from a breeder in Roundup, Montana. From the beginning, he has shown the intelligence, elegance, and affectionate nature that the breed is known for, along with an impressive athleticism that makes him a perfect partner for an active lifestyle. Buddy is now 9 years old and has so much spirit! Buddy is extremely athletic, often joining me in training for half marathons and keeping pace with endurance runs. • He loves outdoor adventures, whether riding along on 4‑wheeler trips or camping in Zortman. • Playful at heart, his favorite game is fetch, and he never tires of chasing after a ball. • He has a sweet tooth for treats, especially peanut butter‑flavored Beggin’ Strips. Buddy is a Standard Poodle who has been under consistent veterinary care since joining our family at 8 weeks old. He is generally healthy and athletic, but he is currently showing symptoms of a possible spinal injury. His veterinarian has recommended further diagnostics, including an MRI, to determine the extent of the injury and whether surgical intervention will be necessary. We live in rural Montana, which makes accessing advanced veterinary care especially challenging. The closest facility equipped to perform an MRI and spinal surgery is at least 90 miles away, requiring significant travel in addition to the high cost of specialized diagnostics

I love my seniors

Working on old dogs.

There will come a day when the age of your best friend may prevent them from safely getting groomed. 🥺 Here is some information to consider to help your senior dog that groomers should be aware of.

1. Older dogs have thinner skin, this means it is more inclined to tear. Pay special attention to this when working out mats as this becomes a risk with every tug of the brush.
2. Older dogs may have growths, moles, skin tags that can get caught in a clippers blade, scratched with the brush. Both of which will be painful for your dog or even result in serious injury.
3. Arthritis and hip/joint issues may be present in an older dog. As groomers there are things we can change during the grooming process to help work around such issues. Such as using our leg underneath them to help support their weight, being extra gentle, giving breaks and carful moving the area if needed and maybe leaving a dog slightly incomplete. But keep in mind that grooming is an endurance game lasting approximately 2 hours! They will be asked to get up and down from the table and bath in most cases, asked to stand a lot of the time, and be touched and moved the entire time.
4. Old dogs may not be able to hear or see. This dog can be groomed but keep in mind they may need more patience and time so they don’t get startled.
5. Always inform your groomer of any surgeries, pains, moles (ect.), ailments and age of your dog.
6. It is imperative to not allow your senior dog to become matted. Mats are not ok for the average pet much less our senior fur babies. They are far more risky to endure and remove on an older dog.
