Pictured here is all the critters I got in this weekend! We have a Tahr for a full body mount, Red Stag for a shoulder mount, Axis Deer for a shoulder mount but possibly a full body mount, a Alberta Black Bear full body mount, 2 Mouflon Rams for shoulder mounts, Painted Desert Sheep for a shoulder mount, Texas Dall Sheep for a shoulder mount, a bison hide to tan (not pictured), and 3 skulls for Europeans. Next several days will be packed with nothing but caping and fleshing! Excited over the next year to bring these guys back to life 👌

I'm going to use this bear as an example -
I don't have an answer as to why there was so much hair slippage on the face of this bear. There was hair completely gone an inch around the eyes, inside the ears, and two big patches gone under the chin along the front of the neck. It was stored laid out in a freezer immediately upon skinning (not rolled into a ball) and straight into tanning. This bear from my knowledge was treated the way a hide should be. Yet despite that still had a ton of hair slippage that I am in the process here of replacing with different lengths of static flocking to mimic hair. I have a LONG WAYS to go.
Even in perfect situations hair slippage can happen. Just goes to show why it's so important for you as the hunter in the field to take the best care of the cape as you can to prevent hair slippage. I have ran into this situation several times with even wallhanger hides obviously due to the hunter not taking care of the cape. I am an avid backcountry hunter so I understand how hard it is sometimes to get it back somewhere cool. Even with that you can get it cooled down more by getting airflow to it before putting it in your pack. Any airflow is better than no airflow. As soon as you get back to the truck get it out of your pack and spread it out if you can. Let out that trapped heat. When you put it in the freezer DO NOT roll it in a giant ball before the hide is cool. Everything in the center of that ball is trapping heat and can cause slippage. If you don't have means to get it cool, get it to your taxidermist right away or pay to have it hung in a meat cooler. I'm lucky with this bear the slippage can be fixed with alot of hard work but not all situations are like that. I can't always add hair where there isn't any, and with that it's alot of time fixing this which leads to your bill being more expensive.

PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOUR CAPES!

Well I got one skull done between yesterday and today while I've been sick and having fevers. I hate not being able to do much during sick days, but at least I got one skull finished and ready to ship home!

Thank you everyone that brought heads to me this past season for being patient with me! I received almost 140 skulls in this season not to mention over 13 mounts, and quite a few wallhanger hides. I am officially down to 23 skulls left to beetle! If you are still waiting on your european I am getting closer everyday!

This bear and I have a couple weeks of drying time before I can finish him. There's quite a bit of hair slippage on the face I have to fix which is unfortunate, but it does happen. Looking forward to sharing final pictures once my vision is completed 👌
