Some of the biggest hearts belong to the smallest people! 🥰

We want to give a massive thank you to Viv and Bri, who recently hosted a lemonade stand to raise funds for the animals at our shelter. Their kindness is a beautiful example of the compassion that runs deep in our community. Every act of kindness, big or small, helps us continue our life-saving work.

As you plan your week - consider adding “ADOPT” to your to do list!

For the conclusion of Clear the Shelters, we’re offering 50% OFF adoption fees for pets 6 months and older Thursday 8/21 through Saturday 8/23. CTS is a nationwide initiative to help pets find new homes, and we can’t wait to see who meets their match!

PLUS - Saturday 8/23 is extra special because it’s also Barks & Brews right here at the GAHS! What a way to celebrate the close of CTS!

This fun collaboration with Baxter Brewing Co. will include refreshing beverages, food trucks, vendors, live music and more — all to support our animals and mission. We are thankful to our friends at Lydia Media for helping to support this fun event!

Adventure awaits with Caramel!

As part of Clear The Shelters, we're celebrating our amazing long-term residents who have been patiently waiting for their new families. Today, we're all about Caramel—a beautiful hound mix with a high-energy spirit and a heart of gold.

Caramel is a scent-driven explorer who thrives on mental and physical stimulation. She's looking for an active, outdoorsy family that's ready to hit the trails and go on new adventures with her. This solo gal wants to be the one and only pet in her home, where she can shine as the center of attention.

We're here to help you succeed! The GAHS is committed to supporting her transition with guidance and referrals to positive reinforcement trainers. If you're ready for an incredible partner for all your outdoor excursions, come meet Caramel!

Thinking of opening your heart and home to a feline friend? Now is the perfect time! Meet Snowball and Pumpkin, two of our sweet residents hoping to find their new home during Clear The Shelters this month.

This sweet and shy bonded pair of floofy lovebugs is ready to find their indoor-only forever home-together, of course! It may be summer, but Pumpkin and Snowball will make the ultimate cozy-weather companions: they love cuddling, grooming each other, and curling up with their favorite humans.

Come meet Snowball, Pumpkin, and all our wonderful cats - we’re open until 4pm today. Every adoption makes a difference during Clear The Shelters.

We are incredibly grateful to Gerry and Rebecca from the Summit Spring Ladies League who generously raised funds and recently collected supplies for the GAHS in support of Kindness Keepers for Hallie, a Maine-based nonprofit founded in 2023 to honor the memory of Hallie Oldham, a compassionate nine-year-old whose life was tragically cut short.

Hallie believed that “kindness was free” and that “it doesn’t take any extra time just to be nice.” That spirit continues to guide the organization which focuses on giving back to our local communities through scholarships, acts of kindness, and inspirational events that spread warmth, hope, and Hallie’s legacy of caring.

The generosity of the Gerry, Rebecca and the Summit Spring Ladies League along with the work of Kindness Keepers for Hallie embody what “kindness in action” looks like. You’re helping us make life brighter for countless animals while honoring a beautiful legacy of compassion.

🚨Reminder🚨

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 16, is our next Pet Wellness Clinic being held at the Livermore Community Center from 9:00 - 11:30am.

As always, please have your dogs on leash and cats in a carrier. Proof of previous vaccines may alter future revaccination dates, so please bring documentation with you.

Our vaccine clinics will be held monthly through the year. More information can be found on our website at savingpetsinmaine.org.

Today, August 15th, is Check the Chip Day!

It’s the perfect reminder to make sure your pet’s microchip registration is up to date—because a chip is only as helpful as the contact info linked to it! If your contact details have changed, take a moment to update them with your chip's registry. A quick check could make all the difference in reuniting with a lost pet.

At the GAHS, we believe so strongly in the importance of microchipping that all dogs and cats adopted from our shelter are microchipped prior to adoption!

Microchipping is one of the single most important things you can do to protect your pet. It’s a permanent form of identification, providing a secure, reliable link between you and your pet. Collars can break or fall off, but a microchip stays safely in place, significantly increasing the chances of a happy reunion if your pet ever gets lost. It’s a simple procedure that offers a lifetime of security.

If your pet isn't microchipped yet, we’ve got you covered! Microchips are available at our monthly Pet Wellness Clinics - an easy, affordable way to give your pet a lifetime of protection. Our annual Golden Paw Awards has become our signature celebration, honoring the people, pets, and partnerships that make a difference for animals in our community. It’s an evening filled with heartwarming stories, special recognition, delicious food and drinks, and lively entertainment - all to support pets in need.

And you can help make it shine even brighter! We are currently collecting exciting items for the evenings Silent Auction.

Looking for a little trio of tiny food critics? 🐹🐹🐹

Meet Chewy, just 1/3 of the cutest, most snack-motivated guinea pig gang around! Chewy and his brothers, Reece & Murphy, are a sweet, but shy, bunch of baby piggies who are ready to find our forever home together.

They may need a little help with their social skills, but we have a secret: the key to their hearts is through their bellies! Offer them some yummy treats, and they’ll warm up in no time. The boys are looking for a peaceful home with respectful kids who have guinea pig experience and a spacious "piggy palace" to call our own. Their dream home includes a multi-habitat setup, an extra-large playpen for zoomies, and endless hay and chew toys.

Adopt Chewy, Reece and Murphy and you’ll get triple the cuteness, triple the fun, and a chorus of happy squeaks every mealtime!
