The Clinic Cat Chronicles – Episode 14: “Certified Lap Worthy” 🧡🐾

It’s official: Dr. Wilson has been initiated.

With all the confidence of a cat who owns the building, Oliver has made a habit of climbing right into her lap and has made himself completely at home. No hesitation. No invitation needed. Just pure orange-cat certainty.

No higher honor exists at our hospital. It means you are now part of Oliver’s trusted inner circle (and that your productivity is over for the next 20 minutes).

Does your cat have a built-in radar for the exact moment you need to get something done? Let us know in the comments—and feel free to share your own lap-cat stories!

Is Grain-Free Really Better? Let’s Talk Heart Health!

You may have heard about grain-free diets for pets, but did you know studies have linked some grain-free foods to a serious heart condition called dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs?

At our hospital, we’ve recently seen multiple cases of DCM in dogs eating grain-free diets. This is a real and growing concern in our community.

Research from the FDA and veterinary cardiologists has shown that certain grain-free diets—especially those high in peas, lentils, and potatoes—may increase the risk of DCM, which affects the heart’s ability to pump blood.

What can you do?
Talk to your veterinarian before making changes to your pet’s diet.
Choose foods that meet WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) guidelines.
Look for brands with veterinary nutritionists on staff.

Your pet’s health is our top priority! If you have questions about what’s best for your furry friend, call us or stop by—we’re here to help!

The Clinic Cat Chronicles – Episode 9: “Running Water or Nothing!” 🚰😼

In true diva fashion, our clinic cat Oliver has decided that bowls are beneath him. Why sip still water when you can demand a fresh stream from the faucet instead?

Every morning now includes a royal ritual: Oliver hops up, stares at us expectantly, and won’t budge until the tap flows just right. Only then will His Orange Majesty take his delicate little sips.

As funny as it is, this behavior isn’t uncommon—many cats prefer running water! It feels fresher to them and can even encourage better hydration.

Do your cats insist on sipping from the sink, too? Tell us in the comments—or better yet, share a photo of your own feline faucet fan!

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Wilson to the Pointe 183 Animal Hospital & Urgent Care team starting July 16th!

Dr. Brindi Wilson was raised in a military family, spending her early years in Florida and Nebraska before settling in Abilene, Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from Texas Tech University and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Wilson’s love for animals began at an early age, and it quickly became clear that veterinary medicine was her calling. Her parents recall her frequently bringing home stray animals in need of care—an early sign of the dedication and compassion she brings to her patients today. Dr. Wilson holds particular professional interests in orthopedics and oncology.

Outside of her veterinary work, Dr. Wilson enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, and staying active. She and her husband enjoy evening walks with their dog and relaxing at home with their two cats.

We’re excited for the exceptional care she’ll offer our patients and the trusted relationships she’ll create with the families and their pets in our community.

Help us welcome Dr. Wilson in the comments below! 👇
