It’s incredible what a little time and love outside the shelter can do for a dog.

When Nala arrived to The Animal Foundation in November, she was skinny, injured, and in rough shape. Fast forward to today—she’s thriving in her new home.

Krista and Marcus came to The Animal Foundation in January to foster a dog, but fate had other plans.

“Marcus sat down to tie his shoe and Nala put her face next to him. Then he put his hand to the glass and she put her paw up to his. That was it. He knew she was ours from that moment."

The first photo shows Nala when she first arrived at the shelter. The others? Taken in her new home. Unbelievable.

With kitten season in full swing, we are making it easier than ever to foster kittens in need!

Every day from 11-7, you can come to our low-cost clinic at 655 N Mojave Rd. to pick up a litter of foster kittens! No appointment necessary. We’ll have staff ready to assist you, go over how to care for the kittens, and provide any supplies you might need.

With your help, we can save the lives of the cutest and most vulnerable animals in our care!

Her bark is crisp, like an unoaked white wine. Her coat is sharp and clean. Her personality is sweet. It’s no wonder we named her Chardonnay!

This 7-month-old sweetie is counting down the days til she is prancing down the teal carpet at Best in Show on May 4th.

If she had a day job, she would be a flight attendant, always checking in on her people and making sure they are comfortable and loved. She’s great on the leash, in the car, and even likes to watch TV while lounging on the couch with her foster family.

You know that old man who yells at kids to get off his lawn… but then hands out Werther’s Originals with a wink? That’s Loki.

13-year-old Loki might greet you with a grumpy face, but give him a little time, and you’ll see his softer side start to peek through. Deep down he’s a total softie.

Mac is such a sweet boy - he just isn’t a fan of being cooped up in his kennel!

He’s the pup you fall in love with after just a few minutes. You can tell he’s got quite the personality, and treats are the way to his heart.

Take him on a foster field trip, find a pool or a splash pad, and watch him go! He splashes, jumps, and gulps water. His adorable tail wiggles and wags. It’s impossible not to smile right along with him.

4-year-old Mac is available for foster or adoption. When you visit the shelter to meet him, be sure to ask if there’s a play yard with a hose and a pool available - you won’t regret it!

You might not see Mary right away, but you’ll definitely hear her — talking with our shelter cats like they’re old friends.

Mary knows all their names. Their nicknames. Who likes chin scratches and who just wants a quiet nap.

For the past 7 years, Mary has been a volunteer at The Animal Foundation — showing up for the cats who need her most.

Before she became a kindergarten teacher, Mary worked at an animal shelter in California. Even after she left to start teaching, she knew her heart wasn’t done helping animals. She still wanted to give back.

Her favorite part about volunteering? Helping the "spicy" cats — the ones who hide, hiss, or just need a little extra time — feel safe, seen, and loved.

Mary also mentors new volunteers, helps set up meet-and-greets for our cats, and even sneaks in a dog walk when she gets the chance.

It's Volunteer Appreciation Week, and we're sending a huge shoutout to Mary—and every one of our volunteers—for their incredible dedication to our shelter animals.

Sandy lives her life with chutzpah! Whether she’s snuggling up on the couch or chasing after a tennis ball, Sandy loves doing whatever you’re doing.

On a recent foster field trip, we learned a lot about her:

🏡 She’s housebroken and loves car rides
🎓 Sandy knows basic commands and walks well on a leash
🍗 She’s treat-motivated and aims to please in everything she does

The Animal Foundation is AT CAPACITY. Nearly 1,000 dogs have come through our doors since the beginning of the month!

Today, we have 946 animals on campus. 549 of them are dogs who desperately need help.

And it’s not just dogs.
Our kitten nursery is officially FULL.
We’re out of space for dogs.
We’re out of space for kittens.

We need fosters NOW.
🐶 Medium and large dogs (6+ months old and 35+ lbs)
🐱 Bottle babies and gruel gobblers
🐈 Nursing mama cats with litters

Mama Cass is named after the legendary singer because, let’s be honest, she's kind of a big deal.

She's got one blue eye and one brown eye, a fluffy merle coat, and enough star power to light up your whole house.

She's crate-trained, cuddle-obsessed, and totally devoted to her fans (a.k.a. anyone with snacks).

She loves snuggling, playing with the other dogs in her foster home, and chewing on anything she can get her little paws on.

Time to meet the puppies competing for your affection at this year’s Best in Show! Since the show is on May the 4th, we had to get a little creative with their names. 😉

𝗪𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁: This furry little Ewok might be small, but his bravery knows no bounds. Wicket is always up for an adventure and takes his role as home security officer very seriously. After an afternoon of protecting your home from the mailman, he’s happy to snuggle up next to you on the couch.

𝗕𝗼𝗯𝗮 𝗙𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵: Boba Fetch is nothing like his namesake. While Boba Fett might be feared and respected across the galaxy, Boba Fetch is stuck begging people to pick him up so he can join in on the adventure. This loveable tyke is always up for a ride in the car (he sticks his head out the window, pretending he’s traveling at light speed).

𝗔𝗵𝘀𝗼𝗸𝗮 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗼: This young padawan might get a kick out of telling the cats in her house what to do, but really, she’s a sweetheart who just loves to play and snuggle. Ahsoka loves to hang out with people, and she even plays with the cat in her foster home. She never met a person she didn’t like and will happily spend the whole day by your side.

𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘄𝘆: Like the famous wookie, this girl will be by your side through thick and thin. Chewy is the best wing-woman around, always wanting to be right where the action is. She loves nothing more than to follow other pups around or cuddle right up under your chin.

𝗣𝗮𝗱𝗺𝗲: She may be small, but the force (zoomies) are strong with this one. Padme is an energetic social butterfly who is always ready to play. While she’s still learning the ways of the force (manners), she’ll make you laugh every day with her lightspeed antics. This youngling is ready for the happy ending Anakin could never give.

𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗶𝗮: Get ready to meet the most stunning and capable royal in all the galaxy. Like her namesake, she is confident and headstrong. She loves to play with toys, snuggle, and nap. She has already learned to use the doggy door and walks well on a leash. One look in her eyes will leave you wanting to say, “I love you” - but trust us, she already knows.

Nanny’s Happy Tails Update! 🐾💕

Nanny - now known as Nini - is loving life in her new home! She enjoys zooming through the backyard, going for walks on a nearby trail, and cuddle sessions.

She’s gentle with her new cat siblings, and her tail wags sound like little drum beats on the floor.

This past weekend, Nini conquered her first desert hike, and she also declared herself the backyard’s top Road Runner patrol officer. (Check out the photo)

Oh, and she also seems to think she’s invisible as long as her head is buried in the pillows on the couch. 🤣

Meet Shrimp! Yes, that’s his real name. No, he’s not small. It’s like calling a giraffe “shorty.”

He lives his life with full-bodied enthusiasm. He might bump into you like a big, clumsy parade float, but he doesn’t mean anything by it. Shrimp just forgot that he’s not a lap dog anymore, no matter how much he wants to be.

Shrimp is gentle, goofy, and oh so sweet. He enjoys playing with other gentle and silly pups during playgroup at the shelter. Plus, you don’t even have to bend over to pet him. He’s perfect.

Brady lives for those quiet moments when he can lounge on a perch far above the commotion and hustle of the shelter, silently watching, possibly judging, but always cute as a button. 😻

He’s a curious 7-year-old kitty who loves to explore and observe.

He might take a few minutes to open up and trust you, but rest assured, once he gets to know you, he never wants to say goodbye. In a loving home, Brady will be your new best friend, he just needs a minute to get the lay of the land.
