We get it all the time. “Why adopt an older dog instead of a puppy?”

Well, meet 6-year-old Dustyn.

❣️ He’s gentle and well-behaved - he understands his size in relation to the world
🐕 Excellent leash manners and won’t gnaw on it as you walk him (looking at you, puppies!)
⛲ Housebroken and won’t treat the couch like a fire-hydrant all day long

Your average puppy can’t hold a candle to the refined, loving, and demure Dustyn!

This week is our busiest time–we see hundreds of lost, scared, and stressed dogs come through our doors, frightened by 4th of July celebrations. Can you help by fostering a dog?

Every open kennel makes a difference. Not only are you giving a dog a much-needed break from the noisy shelter, but you’re also opening up space for a dog that comes after them.

We need fosters for large, adult dogs (6+ months old & 35+ lbs). Remember, fostering is completely free; we provide everything you need. Head to the foster window in our adoption lobby to pick up a dog starting at 11 am Tuesday through Sunday–no appointment required.

How to Keep Your Pet Safe:
✔️Keep pets indoors in a quiet, safe space (crate, closet or bathroom)
✔️Turn on music or a fan to help drown out the noise
✔️Try calming collars, jackets, or vet-approved meds
✔️Make sure your pet’s tag and microchip info is up to date

Here’s how to keep yours safe:

1️⃣ Collar + ID tag (or Sharpie your phone number directly on their collar)
2️⃣ Microchip + check to make sure the info is updated!
3️⃣ Create a calm space indoors
4️⃣ Distract them with TV, fans, treats
5️⃣ Talk to your vet if they need anti-anxiety medications
