We have received numerous calls and emails about a dog in our care named Dodger and we'd like to address them directly.
First and foremost, we do not have a euthanasia list and Dodger is not "scheduled for euthanasia."
Dodger was surrendered to us by his owner on October 20th. He went through our standard intake process which includes a medical and behavioral assessment. Dodger presented as fearful of strangers and he quickly shut down in the kennels. Unfortunately, that means Dodger cannot go to our adoption floor yet, as we are an open adoption facility and we don't want to put potential adopters or Dodger at risk.
Our Outcome Coordinator has been keeping Dodger in her office, giving him time to decompress and helping him get used to people. A rescue plea was sent to our (amazing) rescue partners with hope that Dodger could be placed in a less stressful environment where he could get the behavioral support he needs.
If no rescues are able to take on Dodger's care, we will continue working with him with all of the resources available to us, including our Project Pup certified trauma-informed dog trainers.
We will always pursue every avenue possible to achieve a positive outcome for the animals that come through our door. We want to thank every single one of our rescue partners for helping us accomplish that mission every day.
