SAVING SOFIE PUPDATE!
Sofie was spayed this week and received her vaccines and heartworm/tickborne test (negative). We're keeping the walks to a minimum this week. Was hoping they'd be able to get a cone on her at the BVSPCA but alas, no, and I had to coax her out of her recovery cage in the back before lassoing her and heading home. 

The good news is, I was able to touch her while she was riding in the car. Leashing her up has been a little easier each time. She loves to go out for walks and puts her paws up on the front door so I can easily loop the slip lead over her head. Today I was able to get a brand new martingale collar with tags around her neck for the safest walking scenario.

Now that she has her vaccines on board, and once she has recovered from her surgery, we're going to try to have a variety of our more experienced dog walkers take her out so she has more exposure to an assortment of new faces.

We will continue to get to know her until she's comfortable with us and we feel safe putting her up for adoption. Meanwhile, she's earned the nickname, Sofie the Snapdragon 🐉 🔥.

It's no secret that we are not a fan of the "clear the shelters" pet giveaways – the next one coming, Saturday, August 16. But if you can't beat them and won't join them, you can help with educating.

Please join us at Yarn & Bone Pet Supply & Pet Wash in Hockessin/Lantana Square tomorrow 11 AM – 2 PM for some tried and true advice, handouts, and discounts and goodies for your newly adopted pet.

Summer is flying by! We've had a flurry of activity, mostly with intakes, but we did have two wonderful adoptions last month!

Our August Graduates are (drumroll please !) CHESTNUT the guinea pig (on left in pic) -  who had been with us for over a year as an only pig – now he has his best snuggle buddy in his new home! And CHARLIE the cat! Charlie was part of the five that was left at our doorstep – his personality sold himself and he was adopted before he even hit the website. We love it when their time with us is short and they can move on with their best life!

Congratulations to Chestnut and Charlie! A huge thank you to their adopters and to our volunteers to make miracles happen every day!

It's been a while since we have featured an incoming pet from start to finish – follow along for !

Sofie came to us over the weekwnd through no fault of her own. She is a three-year-old "Teddy Bear" (which, looking online, is more of a look than a breed mix).

Most of the animals we take in have medical or behavior problems – Sofie fall into the latter category. She is under socialized and snappy if someone she doesn't know invades her space. We are hoping that exposing her to a variety of volunteers and eventually getting her into a foster home will help her be more accepting of new people.

Sofie would be terrified in a conventional shelter, if not euthanized outright. Please only positive comments on this post – her owner did the right thing in bringing her to us.

I'm attaching a donation button to help with Sofie's care - we are hoping this is a "mini-series" but we are here for however long it takes to get her ready for her furever home!
