Are you listening to your Horse?
Sometimes I ignore mine I will admit… it seems like they’re whinning to each other for no reason or they’re just annoyed. They wanna know how everyone’s doing. I’m not even sure sometimes… today I was in the far back Pasture clearing up rocks and sticks sweating my butt off… and I heard Maui in the very front pasture whinying. I ignored him at first, but he kept talking and he had friends in his pasture so I was trying to decide as I worked, what he would be complaining about … maybe he missed Rhodey? Not likely enough to cry for him… maybe the mares in the next pasture? still they’re not nice to him so why would he ask for them ?… reluctantly I decided to go check it out… he was just standing by the roundbale of hay & I was thinking he must be stuck on something but couldn’t figure out what… didn’t see anything when I got there so ok, what next, picked up his feet & a nearby stick for a hoofpick to see if there was anything in his foot, why else would he just be standing there? First foot nothing, but after a bit of cleaning in second foot I felt a pokey thing that was not coming out, turns out it was a stick that got stuck UP INTO his foot 🤦♀️ I couldn’t get it with my fingers so I told him to stay put while I ran & grabbed some pliers. Thankfully I was able to pull it loose & blood started pouring out immediately… he already knew what to do, he turned & limped toward the gate so I could bring him in & give him some pain meds… clean it out, wrap it… he just got rid of an abscess, now his foot has a puncture wound in it. At least Rhodey has company… 🙏🤷♀️🐴🐴
